another battery relocate problem
got an ef hatch. try to put the battery behind the passenger seat. got the wiring done and when i went to put the terminals on, the ground wire from the valve cover to the frame got fried. then i tried it again and some smoke came out from the dash. and why would the oil light and beeping sound come on if the keys werent in??? Some help duuuuudes.
did you do a wire tuck????
why would the crappy little VC ground fry???
bin the VC earth, does not do anyting, and wont do anything. just make up two new big thick gauge earth straps, for gearbox and motor/block.
if you did not do a wire tuck, relocating the battery to the rear is not hard to do, very fool proof; should not have smoke or fried wires....!!

i thought i did fry something else, but everything seems ok. Why would the dash lights come on when i was connecting the terminals? The key wasn't in.

So tell us where you connected the Red lead in the engine bay and where did you connect the Black lead? Hopefully you are using a local ground near the battery for the black lead.
alright. I bought a 70 something inch long battery cable to connect it from the starter to the battery. Then i bought a 12 or 14 gauge cable to hook up the fuse box in the engine bay to the battery. Ran both through the firewall and hooked up the terminal to the battery then i hooked up the ground under the center console on one of the two screws infront of the shifter. When i went to connect the ground i got sparks. Then i tried hooking up the positive first and i got sparks and smoke and dash lights.
did you run a rubber "O" ring through the fire wall or just drill a convent hole and push the wires through with little or no regard for the sheath that covers them? if you did then you have probably stripped some the the covering off the wires and now your "+" battery cables that are going through your firewall are now grounded to the firewall "since it is metal and a part of the chassy" and your shorting out something causing sparks to fly all over your car...
However if your not pre-said rocket scientist and you did place some sort of a non conductive barrier in the firewall then your problem may be as simple as you ran a ground to a positive by mistake go back and check all of your wires and make sure that the grounds are grounded and the positives are ran to positive terminals.

ok but have you check all you wiring yet. i can almost guarantee that you've crossed something somewhere. i did a relocation on my CRX the other day and i had very little problems other then cramped space with a b16 in the engine bay. its pretty straight forward process dude if sparks fly then somethings crossed.
