Default should i run open header??

i just got my b20 vtec dyno tuned and was wondering how big of a difference running open header would make. i have a press bent 2 1/4 exhaust. how much do you guys think i will gain by running ope header. i wanted to get it tuned open hader but my bung was 1 inch away from the end of the header.

i dynoed at 190WHP and the dyno has low readings(10-15% lower)....i forgot the name of the dyno.

It depends on how many tickets you want.

Just curious, why would you want to tune "open header" then drive around with the EX system on and a bad tune. Tune the car as you are going to use it. JTFIGB.

Unless you plan to drive the car open header, I would tune it with the exhaust system you have or a larger system for better performance with your 2.0L

Like Don said, you dont want to tune open header as a means of mearly yeilding higher numbers on a dyno sheet if you really intend to place the exhaust system back on afterwards.

You could pay for two tunes. One for DD with the EX system on, and another chip for when you'd see the need to remove the exhaust system for what ever gains in power that will yield if you don't want to upgrade to a larger/free'er flowing system to suit your power goals.

no sense in running open header on a street car. A couple extra hp isnt worth the extra attention

well i tested it out the other night and it was a noticeable difference. i think it was mainly because i have a garbage exhaust. its not too loud unless you get on the gas all the way. open header sounds sick wot.

Get rid of your "garbage exhaust" and get either 2.5 or 3.0 inch mandrel bent piping

I ran 13.01 with a Skunk2 Mega Power 2.75" exhaust, bolted the exhaust of and bolted up a 2' extension pipe to the header. It ran 12.704 with no other changes in 30 minutes.

Yeah...they be like VEEEETAAAAAAK

That difference in power production just shows you how much of a piece of sh*t your exhaust really is!! With a properly sized exhaust, the difference in power should be minimal

I only removed the middle piece (10 lbs max!), so it was definitely NOT weight reduction. The power has been registered on the dyno.

Open header on the street is just ridiculous. However, its not that hard to remove your catback at da track and bolt it back on after.

I been driving my SOHC open header on Dc Sport for a year now. and not a problem. i Can't seem to find a exhaust that adds power with out sounding like **** so i stick with open header. and the entire time i have had the car i got pulled over once and they didn't say **** about it. i drive by cops all the time. The only reason it sounds loud is cause its not coming out the rear bumper its dumping right under the car next to you. so to you it sounds loud but its really not.

I don't know if its a bit different in noise on a SOHC but after my B18c engine was swapped in, I ran open header for a couple days after and that thing was efffiing loud. It was a night and day difference when I had my muffler and piping put on.
