Generally, if you go to the trouble of replacing rings, you do everything else that you had to remove or can easily remove that might cause problems later, like bearings

Im trying to keep this as low buget as possible, my compression sucks so i want to replace the piston rings but i have no reason to belive the bearings NEED to be replaced, replacing the bearings would be alomst another $100, yeah ideally i would replace them but if i dont need to id like to avoid it, now if the bearings are like a headgasekt or something that should only be torgued to specs once is what i really want to know

do a leak down test. if the valves are leaking do a valve job and head gasket. If you have bad rings you really need to do all, hone the cyl, replace rings, bearings, valve job and headgasket. what motor is it?

Easy = Rings, rod bearings.

Difficult = Crank bearings. = Might aswell lift the engine out. But they are usually in better shape than rod bearings.

squirt some oil in the cylinder and re check the compression. It would suck to do all that work only to find out its your valves leaking.
