Default TURBO t3/t04E vs greddy 18G

hey guy
presently i have the turbo gsr greddy kit 18G on my type r .
im presently boosting 18 psi dayli but wont go upper then that :before vtec i can hit like 20 psi then vtec kik then fall down at about 18 -17psi max in top end !is that because my turbo is maxed out?
if i go get a bigger turbo like a garret t3/t04E whit new manifold(inline pro) and 3 "downpipe
can i expect a huge difference in the same amount of boost?
anyone know the diff (spec) of the 18 g and the t3/t04E?

my compression is curently @ 9.1
fuel management hondata 2b
2.5 mandrel downpipe--->3''exaust
thx for helping

Your car should be plenty fast with 18psi. I did 12.3 on slicks with my GSR with the greddy kit with 13psi. How fast do you want to go??

hey GMedalion, is that on stock motor and what kind of fuel setup do u have? I want to run 11 psi on my stock motor, but even though I tune the fuel properly, I'm wondering if my engine will last.

i think you have the td0518g right, then you should get it upgraded to the tdo620g that way you don't have to change the manifold ,pipes or even the wastegate.that bad boy will give you 450-500 hp. that should be more than enough for you!

The 20G's are capable of 450-500 HP but that depends on the engine. I believe TD06-20G is equivalent to a straight T4, so you would probably hve to run a lot of boost to reach 450-500 HP. I also wouldn't recommend using the internal WG, I would suggest welding it shut and get yourself a quality external WG.

And IIRC piping diameter for the DP is pretty small for the Greddy kits, the small size would probably hinder performance.

The motor was stock with a FMAX thicker head gasket, ARP head studs, and Nuformz block gaurd. The kit was left alone (blue box was installed), air intake was taken off, and ran a open downpipe, seats were taken out but mostly everything was left in there. Ran on 108 leaded gas and on 22x8x13 M&H slicks with axis slick wheels. Im the time on the right.

You shoulda studied some compressor flow maps before turboing your car so that you would know when you turbo was max'd out. But thats ok, look into some and see if you can match one up with your goals.\

so you haven't had any problems w/ boost creep running that much psi on the stock internal wastegate?

yeah if i set my controler to 10 psi it will creep to 15 in top end!(cuz of the free flow downpipe)
i just call greddy tech guy and said that the td05 18g will max out in the 18 psi zone
and said that upgrade to a td06 20 g will max out in the 20-21 psi zone so it will not be a good invest!
he said that my best bet is to get a garret t3/t04E whit new manifold and external wastegate !
comment on this?

look i have boost creep and boost spike too
if i set my boost to 10 psi it will creep to 15 psi
if i set at 18 it will spike at about 22 psi then go back to 18 psi
if i set 22 psi it will creep down to 18 psi in top end
yes its confusing

damn, that is confusing. i guess i'll have the same thing to look foward to. why do you want to upgrade? i'd think you'd be plenty fast at 20 psi or so...

b18c5 was this run of 13.6 on slicks or street tires.. if u actually lowered your 60foot u would be near low 13s.. even possible high 12s but honestly if you want to see 400hp it will not be with that turbo you will have to upgrade and honestly Best would be a straight T4 or a big T3/T4 if u want to see 120+ trap speeds

so will a td06-20g bolt up right to the manifold of the greddy kit? And can you still run a low amount of boost on this turbo and see good hp numbers?

The way i heard, you have to weld the internal flap closed then you just cut and weld a flange for you ext WG. You can get more info http://www.dsmtalk.com

b18c5turbo,
I would also check out http://www.dsmtalk.com you can probably get an upgraded MITSUBISHI 20G from a dealer. I cant remember the names of the dealers/distributor off the top of my head. And about the seps to convert from internal WG to external WG, do some searches on DSMTALK on the subject too.
