Default Brake lines

My 2001 Accord needs new brake lines. Honda dealer price is $2000 plus tax. They say MUST have all 4 lines replaced. Independent mechanic and Midas price is $40.00 plus 1.5 hours labour for one line. Maximum if need all 4 is $500 of $150 for each as required. Why the big difference? Are the Honda parts that much better? Need advice here please.

honda dealership and honda parts are always going to be more, just the way it is.

one possible reason could be that the HOnda OEM lines are pre-bent and ready to be installed and the aftermarket shops might be bending their own lines.

Agreed. However it was $90.00 to tell me the lines were broken, and the difference of $2000 to $600 is just a bit too much. Honda getting a little arragant maybe? I hope my experience helps others.
Thanks for your reply.

Alternatively, buy all the parts online yourself and then take them to a shop to have them put on (not a honda dealer) if you're concerned about the price.

Do you have ABS as well? Honda may be wanting to replace those lines in addition to the others while the shop would not be.

Also the 70-90$ diagnostic fee is unavoidable. In fact I pay for it to be done on a car I"m considering purchasing since they'll tell you everything wrong.

well, you cant expect to take your car into somewhere and ask what is wrong with it and have them tell you for free. some do, but most charge or wave the charge if you have the work done by them.

as for Honda getting arrogant... no, i don't think so.

the difference between 2000 and 600 is a lot but do you have detailed quotes from the two to really compare and see why their is such a big difference? it may be like "trying to compare apples to oranges"
