We are using B16A2 engine on our new race car. Our races last 6h (approx. 600km / 400 miles) and all additional stops to fill oil etc. cost time and positions.

We were testing this week, and noted that engine uses oil. This appears to be normal to this engine. It used half of the upper mark to lower mark on approx. 160km / 100 miles.

Used oil is Valvoline VR1 20W-50, and we are using oil cooler => temp approx. 100C / 212F.

My question is: Before race how much excessive oil can be filled to B16A2 without any risks?

 

Burning a half quart in 100 miles doesn't sound normal to me, even on track.

 

Yes, it seems to be a lot.

BUT, engine runs great, it does not smoke on start, on throttle or in engine brake.

 

well, if its not smoking where do you suppose the oil is going?

 

Are you checking oil level with car turned on at operating temperature? oil cooler lines and all that are tricky for the stock oil level stick..

one more thing, do you have a catch can?
