B16a JDM engines really with low miles??
I see this everywhere, they all claim JDM engines imported to north america all have super low miles, even 12 year olds B16s. How can this be? I can't even find any car around here that's 12 years old and has below 80 000 miles and a lot sell B16s claiming they have under 30 000 miles. Am I missing something?
Well for one Japan has an excellent mass transit system....people there buy really nice crx's but just park um and only drive them once in a while...then get rid of them...the streets are to small and to crowded to have a bunch of cars on them.
They also have very strict emissions there.....and ive been told that after a certain amount of miles....they are forced to sell the car....or wreck it...lol(not really wreck it....but salvage it) becuase they consider 50,000 miles on a car alot...becuase at that time the car might be producing more carbon than usual.
and they are prob. lying and like to think their engine only has 30,000 miles.....lol....Just do what should be done anytime buy the motor and rebuild it with all factory specs then you can say brand new motor..rebuilt....

just remember in japan ppl beat the living **** out of thier cars because they know they won't be putting crazy milage on them...
when rebuilding a b16a do you just use eveything from a 99civSI?? as fare as gaskets and piston rings are concerned?? or im i dreaming??
I too heard about that mileage thing. After a certain amount they have to junk the motor. I dont know that first hand but ive been told that before thats why most swaps have low miles. Wheres all the JDM gurus at? I want to know the truth!!

I think the have an age tax the older the car gets the more you pay in taxes. At some point it makes sense to buy new rather then keep paying the stupid taxes on it. I just had the head and oil pan off my b16 after 2 years of driving it and the thing looks sweet still. must be that mobil 1 I using or something.

I'm assuming by saying "rebuilding a b16a" you mean the first gen (89-91), since this is a crx forum.

I don't believe that crap!
Every JDM 1 gen B16 that came here, need a new clutch and sometimes there transmission have broken syncro.
But maybe that has something to do with DOHCsidesi said:

Their inspections may play a part aswell. Their cars have to go through a crazy inspection every 2 years and if anythhing shows wear, it has to be replaced. It sounds right to, because you'd put about that many miles on it in 2 yrs. I read it in SCC; they did a story on how expensive it is to own a car in Japan.
Here's a link about some of the things that Japanese have to go through to drive, some of you may know it already, but I learned some stuff... Shakken = 4 letter word in Japan

Yes it is true that jap spec motors have low miles on them (40000-50000)
This is because of emmisions, Japan has crazy laws. The trans are usally good but the synchros are sometimes bad. The motors are strong. I have a B16 1st gen and it is still running strong with a bad 3rd gear synchro.
