Need help w/ my A/C
94 Honda Civic DX
I bought the car & the guy who sold it to me said that the a/c needs to be recharged. But of course something else is wrong.
I checked it out myself as much as I could. The fan works when I push the a/c button on my dash, but the clutch doesn't engage. I took a wire from my battery & put it into the clutch wire to apply direct power & the clutch kicked on & the freon started going thru the system b/c the pipes started to get cold. Now I'm stuck, not sure what else could be wrong (switch, unit, sensor) Any ideas before I get raped & take it to my mechanic shop? Has anyone else ran into this problem?
THANKS!

The a/c switch's soldered joints on the Climate Control Unit circuit board are suspect. See http://honda.lioness.googlepages.com/airconditioning
not sure on a Honda, But on every vehicle I've worked on when this happens this happens to be the (presure cycling switch) it is located on the drier somewhere usually. you can by pass this switch with a clip to connect both pins. did the ac get cold when u gave the clutch direct power?
Start by checking whether fuse 13 or 35 is blown.
Next disconnect the A/C thermostat and jumper wire the 2P connector. The thermostat is bad if the clutch now engages when you start the engine.

Also check the A/C relay.
It has been a while since I did this, but there are 2 relays next to each other. I think it is the A/C and cooling fan relays. Swap those out with each other and see if it kicks on.
As also posted, check the cycle switch. You can jumper the cycle switch plug and see if it kicks on.
