Default Re: rack and pinion?

Center the steering wheel of course.
Put both front wheels in the air, and remove wheels. Break free the the rod ends from the steering hub, it'll be the one closest to the door and, obviously, attached to the rack and pinion.
Removing the hard lines and the high pressure lines is up to you, I didn't do that since I inserted a manual rack.
In the cabin, there is a black shroud covering the steering column. Pull this off, and you'll find the column-to-pinion link thing. Two 10mm headed bolts hold it on. Break those free and slide that off.
There's about 4 bolts, 14mm, on the underside of the car to remove. That'll let the steering holder thing fall out, assuming you've removed all the power steering lines. I turned my rack/pinion completely to the left to get it out, use a vice grip or similar.

I did the same to the new rack going in, to make it slide into place. Then re-center it.
There's more, but so much typing...
You'll need an alignment after all this by the way.
