Possibly a worn ball joint or bushing.

im not trying to thread jack, but i have the same problem.

i just started noticing the same "ping" sound yesterday, but it doesnt do it every time i turn. just put PIC apexs on and im getting it aligned today, if that means anything.

assuming it is a worn ball joint or bushing, is that a safety issue or just more of an annoyance?

I have seen worn ball joints separate while driving. (Rare) And depending on which bushing it is, Its not so much a safety issue. It's just harder on your chassis, and whatever arm and sleeve its in. I'm not saying either of these are your problem. But you should inspect them.
