Syncros in the trans are wearing.

Try a 50-50 mix of gm syncromesh trans fluid and regular honda MTF. See if it makes it any better.

syncromesh is penicillin for trannies.

I know that the syncros for gear 2 on my tranny are going bad. How easy it is to rectify this manually to ensure the longevity of my trans? I've been told one can grind them down with a file and that will help. I know I could take it to a shop, but would rather glean knowledge from the possible learning experience. Any help would be great.

If you're going to open the transmission anyway, you might as well just replace them. I wouldn't recommend it as a first job to try on your car though. If you are mechanically inclined, you could probably follow a manual.

Did you just get that tranny and did it just start doing this? Sounds like a synchros problem to me.

I have done engine rebuilds before, with my uncle and one on a ford windstar by myself. I replaced all the internal components etc. So, I would like to claim some credit towards being mechanically inclined. And no, the issue has gone on for a little while now (maybe 4 months and i've owned the car 9 months), so I was wanting to take care of the synchros now before they damage other transmission components. Where would i be able to find a manual/guide for replacing synchros on an 88 CRX Si? Thanks.

not your clutch bro, its sycros! i had that problem with my old accord, it's from the abuse. U can try bleeding the clutch and even changing the gear oil but if it's sycros then u need a new tranny, rebuilt ones r too much $$$

Use 10w-30. Thats what I've been using for about 6 years now.

I was thinking when i installed the tranny i only put in about 1.5 quarts of oil, now it has 2 quarts of synchomesh. You guys stated it can hold 2.5 quarts.. would it be wise to add the other .5 quarts..

Could it of grinded because of the lack of tranny fluid (only had 1.5 quarts) ??

Thanks again for everyones help...
