Default Problem with Clutch? 2006 Civic Si

What I am noticing at a higher gears when I have been going to accelerate (especially from the 3-4k RPM range) my revs will start rising without any acceleration...... if i accelerate with minimal gas increase over time.... it usually will work.... but if i do any more than a baby step of gas at a time i see it starting to go up again. also when I'm at high RPMs now and I shift from 8k back down the the next year.... what I'll see is it riding on 7k RPM for a few seconds and then let off...... note during all this my clutch is completely out.

I am not sure how the person before me drove it.... so he could have ****ed the clutch...... and I just recently got the car.....

But I was thinking that this could be a problem with my pressure plates.... and if so.... is it a safe enough assumption to drop my tranny and put in an Exidy Stage 1 clutch with an RSX flywheel in it?

Remember, these engines put out very little torque. Too heavy of a clutch will do you no good.

the exedy stage 1 is a smart choice for this car , if your not going fully built and just using basic mods you will be fine with a stage 1. the rev hang is normal with the stock flywheel , it's designed to hold the rev a bit in between shifts to compensate the DBW, as far as the revs climbing with no gas sounds like the butter fly in the TB may be sticking a bit, you can pull the air intake where it connects to the TB and see if it looks as if its gummed up . if so a bit of TB cleaner should take care of it.

keep in mind if you go with a light weight FW, such as a fidanza or act prolite the rev hang will be almost completely gone and make the revs drop much faster , but they will also climb much faster upon excelleration, if planning on boosting . you may wanna consider going stage 2 or even with a major all motor build, but if going this rout, you may not want the lightest FW you can find . I wouldnt go lighter than a act streetlite with a boosted DD.

If planning on going with a stage 2 or higher clutch , some modification will more than likely be required, may require you to change out some of the stock system MC/SC.. also on my clutch pivot ball i had to add aprox a 6 mil washer spacer to compensate the the throw for the release.

stage 1 should require no modification to anything , the stock system is totally capable of handling a stage 1 pressure plate and the lighter fly wont hurt anything either.

thanks a lot.... I'll look into all of that
I am pretty sure I am gonna stick to a Stage 1.... I was pretty sure it was my clutch.... but I wanted to get a second or third opinion to hunt for other possibilities.... But pretty much I wont upgrade to a Stage 2 until i have some more upgrades to it..... So far all I have is a Injen CAI, DC headers, and a Skunk2 catback exhaust

Exedy Stage 1 is good up to 205 touque, that is plenty with what you have. Besides, Stage 2 sucks to drive around town. It is either in or out and right off the floor. That is what I have and it makes me crazy sometimes and mine is not even a daily driver. I had to install stiffer motor mounts because of the engine rotation due to the hard engagement.

just put in the new clutch and flywheel... running great.... a ton of work... took us like 3 days to get it all out and back up haha..... the subframe was a bitch to take off.... and we took it off twice because we forgot something the first time haha...

great learning experience tho.... i recommend everyone do it.... haha... i know the ins and outs of that inside now.

Why is a light flywheel bad for a boosted civic? I have heard that I just don't know why
