B20 at 6000-6500, then starts to click ****URGENT****
This is VERY weird. I was bookin home last night on the 405 N going toward Valencia and I was pounding on my car through the first 3 gears, AFTER I had stopped for gas. When I had stopped for gas, my car sounded normal.
1st gear - 6700RPM, BAM 2nd gear - 6600, BAM, and 3rd gear - 6800 RPM.
If any one of you own a B20 or LS, they dont make power after 6300RPM, hardly any. Thats why I shifted at those RPM's.
No I didnt mishift, all the shifts were rather smooth. So I get back to cruising speed and I notice my car starts to "tick."
I was thinking it might have been my AC belt because I had just put it on and seemed like it was loose. So I finally get to my pad, and the "tick" is coming from my valve cover. It gets faster and faster as my RPM's increase.
So, at this time, I was suggested that it might be my valve adjustment be out of spec, or my timing might have jumped?
I dont have the tools at this time to tear it down. Based on knowledge and experience, what do you guys think it might be?
If its nothing that I cannot fix, or would involve replacing parts, Im going phucking VTEC.
Note: I hate spending money that Im not prepared on spending.

you could have just gotten that tick from bad gas...it happens if you use too low of an octane for your car...it could be that...u will know becaus the tick or knock sound will be very load in the cams...let your car rest...and buy some Octane boost at a local car shop or something...i think even walmart might sell it...i know that NOS makes an octane boost that works well...
Bad gas cost me and LSVTEC.
I fueled at a place I never fill up at. Two hours later, after some hard driving...KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK. It was gone.

Do CV joints start to click when they go bad?
and really, bad gas can cause your car to tick? hmmm....those octane boosters work with 91 octane gas? i was told by someone they only work if you use the 87 octane.

I wonder if bad gas can also cost me fuel consumption. I used to get a constant 300-330 per tank and the last time I filled up, I got 221.
That Chevron off of Roxford in Sylmar. No I wasnt street racing, it was just convenient. I think it might be that my valves are out of adjustment. Does anybody have the metric valve adjusting tool that can borrow?
Im stressin bad, I felt like calling in sick just to fix my car.

I highly doubt it`s the gas and octane booster wouldn`t help.
I have the tool, or can get it. I`ll bring it Saturday if I go.

I might have some helpful ideas for you, but i need to know what modifications have been completed on the internals. I have a B20 vtec with high compression pistions. I have never had this problem before but i have heard of some like it.
Let me know the mods and i can see if anything rings a bell.
untill then YES bad gas can cause a pinging sound, also if you are low on oil or you oil pump is fucked and not sending the oil throught he engine properly.
There is also a couple of cases when you run a B20 vtec were the pistions will knock and that has something to do with the low head of the vtec. But fill me in on your mods and i will see if i can help you out any

ok well all i can say then is that octane will make no difference in that car it is non-vtec so it does not matter. As someone else mentioned it could be bad gas. Just some shitty stock or something.
Or try:
1: check your timing belt for stretching or damaged teeth
2: Check your oil pressure to make sure that it is flowing correctly
3: MAke sure you have oil...you i know it is dumb to say but ihave seen it happen

Phone call #1 - The 12mm nut that holds the valve in place, the one that you tighten, is missing on cylinder #3. They stuck a magnet down in the oil and it cannot be found. Not looking good so far
Update: I found the 12mm nut lying in my valve cover just about going to chute down oil passage.
Modified Engineering had to remove my cams. YAY!
