Default Maybe buying a 2008 Si, anything I should know about?

I was considering a 09 WRX but at 25g and reports of engine problems I'm a little apprehensive. I've been driving a 95 civic base model for about 5 yrs and I'm ready for something new.

So anyways I went to the honda dealer near my house today (sun so they were closed) and they have about 5 08' Si's on the lot and also a Mugen 08 type inside. I think the 08's are leftovers and have lower if any miles on them. Well the window price says $18,300. Much better pricing then last year when I test drove one. I think I may look into getting one if I can get the right deal. Just wondering if there is any thing about the 08's I should know before I buy. Going tomorrow to test one out again. Thanks

Take it for an extended test drive and enjoy.

2008 has all the fixes, and is right before the facelift, which i think is ugly so depends on what u want.

not quite, the 08's have the same issues the 06-07's did. i'd say the #1 issue on the 06+ si is the 2nd and 3rd gears grinding. also, the dbw takes a little getting used to.

I can't wait, hope the deal goes smooth cause I'd like to stick with honda. I've had very limited maintenance required to my 95' and I would love to own an Si. I drove one last year and it was fun to drive by all means.

Decent fuel economy, 6-speed, high revving motor for 20k are all very attractive to people I guess.

No problem with my 08' Si sedan. And 18,300 for an untitled car? I'd say jump on that if that's the case. I payed 20,800 for mine brand new..

Wait for it, wait for it....no I'll spare you all this time!

Hey the "engine troubles" you are hearing about for the wrx, Really aren't a problem. It was a small issue for the 08 wrx's and then Subaru of America changed the tune on the cars a little bit. Test drive both, however i would think AWD and turbo would make you enjoy the wrx a little more.

Also if you get the chance, if one of those 08's is in fiji blue or habenero red, get it because they discontinued those colors.

Yeah if you were looking at the turbo wrx I would rather have that too. But if you were looking at the WRX that was the non turbo model, I'd go with the civic

no such thing as a non-turbo wrx; the wrx is the turbo model.

The 09 wrx is 265 horses and all wheel drive. I'm doubting that its slower but for 7k less i can deal with the peace of mind and the difference in speed. I'm not looking to race, just enjoy driving what i drive. Going test driving today let ya know what happens. They have a brand new mugen 08' for 26k, might see what I can get em down to on that just for kicks. i'm not looking to spend that much on a civic but I'd like to get a rarer model if the price was right.

that's a deal! I bought mine last september. I paid $20,500
Plus I had problem with my syncro, 2nd, 3rd and 4th.
They replace to new gear. no more problem but my 2nd gear still grinds sometime.
But you can use the warrenty... 18,000 is good deal!

I've got 75K on my 06 Si and the trans problems (for me at least) were cleared up by using the Amsoil MTF.

Either way, buy the one that gives you the biggest grin!

Still smiling after all these years

I am just picking up mine today! Sadly its a 2006 Si in Habi.

Late 2008's DID have the tranny fix in them, so I wouldnt worry about the 3rd gear problems, and they look a lot better than the 09's IMO.

that's funny, cuz 09 owners have reported tranny issues just like the rest of us; nothing has been fixed. some people get lucky, and some don't.

I sure don't understand your comment including "sadly". I absolutely love my 06, and the Habi looks great. I trust your joking......

I think he meant the year, where the 3rd gear grind is most prevalent.

This gearbox problems affects all the 8th gens, less so with later years, but still present. At times I'll get some resistance going into 3rd when everything is still relatively cold.

Picked up a black one for 18,299, there was no workability with the price but I'm not complaining. Brand spanking new, 4 miles on it and a full warranty. I struggled for a bit though as they had a brand new mugen 08' that I almost bought for 25,300 but the $460 a payments deterred me cause I have other $hit right now that requires money.... I wanted it bad though and was just about to sign the paper and said what the hell its the same car for 7k less, $346 a month so I got the black SI. Funny they had two and one sold while I was there and I bought the other, happy I acted quick on this deal. I'm hopefully picking it up tomorrow but we'll see. I got the rust protection package ( I know I could of done it myself but I figured let them do it). Trying to decide if I want to get any of the ground effects, not sure if I can find it cheaper online and do it myself. Well I'm off to get some sleep I work nights and still have not gone to bed today, have to work tonight and if I go to sleep now I might get maybe 5hrs sleep. Oh well I'll have to catch up at work tonight.
