Default Closed-cell foam sound-dampener

Planning on sound deadening hte EK CX hatch. Ive decided to use Second skin Spectrum spray-on dampener. Mostly because of the cleaner finish, and the ability to coat wheel wells on the exterior side.
But I was thinking of using some closed-cell foam mats for sound absorption on top, just to make it more efficient and prevent road noise from entering the cabin.

But the stuff that these audio places sell is marked up like crazy. Overkill isnt gonna do much over the spectrum, and the ensolite that Raamadio offers is expensive, and also not too good at actual sound absorption. Second Skin Luxury liner does a good job, but its heave and EXPENSIVE!
So i was looking for alternative sources, heres a site that offers numerous closed-cell foam products, at a good price. Which one of these do oyu think would work best for sound absorption:

Neoprene http://www.closedcellfoams.com/neoprene.html

gymnastics rubber http://www.closedcellfoams.com/gymnasticrubber.html

or plyethylene http://www.closedcellfoams.com/polyethylene.html

Can you say jute?

It's what I use, jute carpet underlay, works very well for sound dampening, as sound abatement in cars and as sound dampening in sub boxes. 94

Thats good for under the carpet, but what about non-horizontal areas like doors, quarter panels, the hatch area, especially the strut towers.

I use spray glue, cut pieces to fit, a little spray glue on the jute and a little on the cars surface, wait a few sec. then attach, I have used this on many cars, as it is very effective, easy to work with and relatively cheap compared to "brand name" sound abatement products.

Here is another one, instead of using the spray on, "Second skin Spectrum spray-on", [a good product IMO] on the outsides of the wheel wells, us a rubberized undercoat, it is much more effective on the outside of the wheel wells, and cheaper. 94

interesting. Now, when using jute on the vertical surfaces behind the panels, arent you worried about moisture?
I mean, I can see under the carpet installation, thats sealed at the doors, but isnt there moisture behind the plastic panels?

Good idea on the Jute. I've seen lots of car pack little baggies of these "jute" material and jam it into interior panel. For Example, the 06 Civic Si.

Time to Sound Deaden my car!

You do not fill the cavities with jute, just one layer on the surface, there should be no moisture behind the panels, possible a little from condensation, but as long as air is allowed to flow, [not stuffing cavities full] you will not have any problems, I have not seen a problem and as I said I have done lots. 94

Cool, so to what extent should I use jute? Could I use it in the doors on top of the Spectrum paint? On the quarter panels?

Just about anyplace except inside the doors, the inside of doors get wet, on a side note, when spraying the inside of the doors, make sure you do not plug the drain holes at the bottom of the doors.

You can add a layer of jute behind the door panel, [inside the vapour barrier].94
