Icon2 shifting?

I don't want to beat the grinding issue into the ground, but I think mine maybe a little different in that i have to slow down my shifting speed when the vtec kicks in. Below 5800 i can shift very quickly get my lil chirp and im off. After 5800 the vtec kicks in and i acutally have to slow down my speed of shifting. If I don't, you know what happens. Sometimes it will go in with a lil grind and sometimes its not at all. Any ideas?

how is this different from the typical gear-grind story?

edit: how many miles on the car? could be a synchro going out because of regular wear like older hondas are known for.

If you're grinding in Vtec chances are you're shifting faster than your foot is moving to fully press down on the clutch pedal. Happens more often than you think when trying to speed shift. It just takes practice and eventually you'll get the coordination down to the point where you can still shift fast even in the upper RPMs.

Granted these cars are a little different in the shifter feel....but it's still possible to get a nice good quick shift out of them.

You might wanna try and invest in an Engine Torque Damper....it stops the jerking motion of the engine which also contributes to notchy shifting. Just a thought! Worked for me.

Thanks for the info. I have the tq dampner and a twm short shifter. I understand what you say about depressing the clutch all the way down, but my shifting speeds and clutch engagements are the same before and after the vtec kicks in, its just when in the vtec it grinds and before vtec it doesn't. Is there anything having to do with vehicle speed and trasmission speed not matching up? Also vladd you could be right that the synchos might need fixing. I have 29000 mi but might have screwed up the synchos with my shifting screw ups.

I changed the MTF at 10,000 and probably need to do it again. I've been hearing alot about Redline or Amsoil, etc. Probably need to to slow down my shifts, thanks for the input.

loosen the 12mm bolt on the back of the pedal assembly and turn the shaft to the SC about a half turn in or clockwise, this will give you a touch more throw, from the FW, dont go to far or you can blow the SC, .. Good Luck
