Default 2009 civic si

Okay I am really looking to replace my 93 si. So I started looking at the 09 civic si and took one for an exstended test drive. I was quite inpressed with the car overall. Has anyone come up with a way to eliminate the poor proformance of the fly by wire? O n shifting the engine reves take several sec to come down when lifting of the gas. Otherwise the car is really nice I just might have to adjust my driving habbits a bit

to eliminate the downfalls of drive by wire, eliminate the drive by wire. i think some people have converted back to throttle cable. as for the several seconds to come down from rev's, that's the result of a heavy flywheel. you can change it for a lightweight one

I guess those are all options but I was hopping for something less invasive on a brand new car. Something like maybe reprograming the ecu. Then how would you convert someting over to a throttle cable system when so much is being controled by the ecu. Intresting ideas might have to look into them

It takes a little getting used to but the revs will drop correctly once you get the hang of it.

Are you selling the 93 Si?

There should be no rev-hang on an 09. Perhaps your model had an ECU problem.

When you were shifting? The K20 engine wants to be at about 3000rpm, so shifting at anything under that, the engine won't like too much, and could drop power, "slowly".

Sometimes I feel as though I can't shift quickly enough in my 08, because the power drops so quickly.

I don't think the ECU is the problem.

If the engine revs up and takes a second to come down I think it's a timing issue with letting off the gas and pushing in the clutch, it's takes a little getting used to with the E-throttle. When I first got my 07 I noticed it coming from a 93 civic and posted something about it, but soon thereafter figured it out.

My cousins 09 Toyota Auris is the same way.

honda had that little thing to fix the rev hang. or reduce the time of rev hang.
i think it was a reflash or something. but i heard rev hang is for emissions? which i highly doubt

yeah, they reduced it, but it definitely wasn't eliminated. and yes, i've heard the same thing about it being for emissions. why don't you beleive it? it was obviously intentionally programmed in.

So vladd your car revs stays there for a little while before revs come down like the OP states every time you shift? If so that means that the throttle isn't closed all the way when you push in the clutch. The e-throttle doesn't snap shut like a cable throttle when you let off the gas. Try letting off the gas just a little before you usually do before pressing in the clutch. Takes a little practice but it works, at least it does for me.

Perhaps I've just gotten used to it. I usually don't depress the clutch until the car is out of gear between shifts.

yup. under 4k it's not very noticeable, if at all, but 4k+ i definitely notice how the throttle takes some time to fully disengage. i've tried letting off the gas a little early but it's hard to shift smoothly like that. i usually just slip the clutch a little if i'm shifting at higher rpm.

Ease back on to the gas very slowly. It shouldn't be that significant of a hang.

huh? so you don't press in the clutch pedal until the car is out of gear? do you pull it out of gear without using your clutch because thats what your saying above.

It is hard to explain. Instead of clutching before switching gears, kind of clutch while shifting gears. But we're talking about a hundreth of a second difference.

Like this.

Listen to it, compared to the second video. Much better shifts.

Sorry not going to sell it I have way to much time invested into this car to sell her. I have everything sorted just the way I want it. Its going under the knife to get all the rust out then a full engine overhaul and it will become my play toy.

Thanks for all the other info everyone I was sure that it was because of the fly by wire its nice to know honda did address it after the first year of this body style. It sounds like I will just have to adjust to it.
