Tips needed on how to NOT break axles....
Went to the track today hoping I would hit some good 60fts and lower my et with my slicks (23.5x7.5x15 on GSR blades), did my burnout, lined up..reved it up to 5000rpms then dumped the clutch......BAM! broke my axle. I mean it didnt break on the the joint, it broke the spline itself.
So for future reference, how should I launch next time? lower the rpms a little? I didnt think I was putting down that much HP to break an axle but, i guess i was wrong.

it was probably the slicks that did it....one very good suggestion, if you had the money to make the power, spend the money ot harness it. buy some aftermarket axles

yeah, was SEARCHING the forums and read up on all the info about the DSS axles..quite pricey but I guess if it does the job why not!! Any other place other than DSS make good quality, strong axles?
actually....I make over 600 hp with 25 tall tires and run stock axles. Running stock mounts will help transfer power. Also, they have to be genuine honda axles, not referb units...they break real easy. Anouther thing you can do is ride the clutch a little more. It will put more wear on the clutch, but easier on the axles.....Mike

its not so much ride height, but just the fact to keep your axles in align. But your right, if the cars slammed, the axles would not be aligned. Thats why the Bergenholtz brothers car....they lowerd the whole car, but raised the engine up in the car to keep the axles aligned....Mike

actually , my car is not that lowered at all. You think the fact the I just dumped the clutch and the size of the slicks did it for me? I am going to order a set of DSS stg3 from b18bturbo just for the added insurance. but, what is the most likely to break after you upgrade the axles?
diff....if its stock. how much power are you making is the question? It takes a lot of power to start breaking other parts in the trans.
I am currently using CM stg4 w/ a lightened stock flywheel..when you say "feathering the clutch" that does mean riding it? (like what ninesecrx said)
I just ordered a set of axles from MMRusa.com, they're cryogenically treated and supposedly good up to around 350hp. I'm only planning on making a bit over 200hp with my B18A1 turbo setup so i'm hoping these axles are overkill.
I still have a stock clutch...but aren't aftermarket clutches like act or clutchmasters harder to feather?
You can send them the axles and they'll treat them for $85/axle. I paid 500 but that was for the new axles and treatment. I belive they're brand new axles, didn't know there was much of a difference untill just now.
Are these the GATOR axles they have on thier site? Let me know your impressions on them, please take pics of the stock and the GATOR ones for visual difference. I am in the market for some axles.
geez, what motor were u runnin that snapped the axles?
Driveshaft shop would get my vote being how they are made, but they are beefy ***** and only concern is how it goes thru the damper fork

i dont think its more about my motor, I really think it was my launching technique (or lack of it
)...rev up then dump clutch probably did it for me! i just dont want to break anymore axles in the future.

they go threw the damper fork just fine.you have to drop most of your suspensioin to get it in though.easier with 2 people doing it also.

Try a different slick, and also raise your car. Chances are your car is too low, and the axcle angle is too aggressive.
Another thing is to make sure that all your motor mounts are in check. Weak mounts causes axle hop.
Unless you're running an all out race clutch, I wouldn't worry about axles snapping from dumping it out on the launch. I've launched numerous times on a CM stage 4 by dumping it at 8000rpms and nothing lets go.
Good luck
my friend was telling that too, try a different slick combo! but, i really like my wilwood calipers and 11" rotors!!
I ran those slicks (M&H's, in that size), and was snapping axles left and right (literally. Last season, I went through 6 SETS. that's 12 axles... in a street car). Go throw them ***** out.

My GSR is dropped 2" from stock height
