Default alt. belt...

i have a civic 1989 with a d-15b1 with everything stock except the alternator and water pump and when i start the engine the gaddamn alt belt squeals for a couple of secs then it goes away WHY!!!????

its more than likely got dry rot, its gone bad mine did the the EXACT!!!! same thing replace it its so easy i think i loosened two bolts that's it and cost me less than 10 bucks for the belt at auto zone, my car used to squeal all the time upon start up, its embarrassing but very easy to fix look no further buy a new belt

It's probably old, so the circumference is slightly larger, meaning it's not tight and it will slip.

Did you replace it recently? Is it the correct belt? If so, the tension is not set correctly. Re-tension using page 7 of http://media.honda.co.uk/car/owner/m...H200/16-58.pdf .

If it is an old belt, check that your tensioning bolts have not loosened. Consider replacing the belt and re-tensioning correctly.

Very common problem for those kinda new to replacing drive belts.
