Default Radio question

Folks,

Yesterday my Honda OEM radio arrived at my home along with a connector for my Ipod. I have a 2001 Accord EX that came with the 6 disc/tape deck because it was an all in one Radio, it did not have a port for a external CD changer and thus I could not use my Ipod without a tape adaptor

The SE single Tape deck/CD player combo did have this port, so I got one for cheap and a Ipod connector from Axxess and presto crystal clear sound.

I notice that when the engine is on and I rev it, there is whining that comes from the speakers when the radio has dead air (i.e. static) or when the Ipod is paused. I never heard this before on the other radio but that is because I was using the ipod with a tape adaptor and those produce less then steller sound quality.

I suspect that the whine is simply interference from the engine/ Alt
The whine is only there when I rev the engine up and not at idle

I know that they make surpression units for aftermarket radios but what about for the factory radio? Do they make any that don't need to splice into the radio wiring?

Could the engine need to have another ground strap? on it. I read the 6th generation the grounding is not all that good. If I add another ground strap to the engine, would this correct it?

Thanks

Leon

Does the ipod interface you have tap into a power source too? And, does it still get that whine with the iPod disconnected? I have used the 99 Accord radio/tape unit and a couple 99 CR-V units (same as accord, just orange illumination) and never had a whine except when I added a laptop's (that was powered by one of the Acc sockets) audio into the CD signal. The whine went away when I ran the laptop on the battery. All I did to get rid of the whine while powering the laptop from the Acc socket was put a heavy noise filter on the power to the laptop.

You could attempt to wrap the wiring in an insulation to help prevent interference.

First thing you need to do is install just the radio and test that. Make sure it doesn't make noises. If its ok then the Ipod adapter is the problem.

I,m almost 100% sure the sound you are hearing is R/F noise coming through the Ipod cable. First try to run the cable in a different location. Another thing to try, if its a headphone jack style cable. Replace it with a high quality cable!

Basically you picking up small electrical signals through induction of the cable, the the radio is amplifying that signal.
