90 Accord issue
Having an issue with my 90 Accord I just bought 2 weeks ago. The previous owners said that the mechanic (sounded like a moron to my dad and I) told them that the timing belt was put on wrong, and that there was a bent valve. So the previous owners sold the car. Dad said if it was really that, then it'd be an easy fix pretty much. Ok fine. I bought the car for $700. Got it home and it's been sitting in the driveway since then. I have drove it ONE time since then. It runs fine when the engine is cold, but the moment it starts to warm up, it runs really ragged. I stopped at a corner on my way home. It died 2 times. Another corner (for a stop sign) and it died another 3 times. And died 2 more times when I was trying to get it into my driveway. Dad said when it's started at cold, it has an rpm of 2000. Sounding and running smooth. Then as soon as it warms up, it drops down to 300-400 rpms and runs ragged again. Dad thinks that it might be getting either not enough gas and too much air, or the opposite. He doesn't think that it is a bent valve because he said that would cause it to backfire and run crappy from the moment you turn it on to the moment it's turned off. But it does the exact opposite. It runs fine when the engine is cold. I'm not looking for some miracle here, but just some answers as to what could POSSIBLY be wrong with my car. And if it's terminal or not. Which then I will sell it for what I paid & put into it, if it is terminal. (New fuel filter, new air filter, sea foam injector cleaner, full tank of gas and got the stuff for a new oil change, too.) Please only serious replies; I don't need you to say I'm just a dumb woman.
well, you can check to see if the cam and crank timing is lined up. if it is, then to confirm a bent valve is to do a leak down test. if it isn't lined up, then line up your marks and drive it and go from there. good luck.
