Default Questions about porting Mini-me head

Okay to start off I have 1990 Hatch. I have been putting all my money into making it look nice, and finally decided to add some power. I put a si tranny in it, DC Sports headers, and then today one of my friends sold me a D16 Vtec head with 2 valve covers, new dizzy, new buddy club controller, complete uncut harness, random vtec parts, new headgasket, intake mani. So I have two questions:

1. I have a Chipped OBD0 PM5 ecu im running right now that I was going to trade for a OBD1 ecu...but which ecu is the best?

2. Also, My brother mentioned I should port the head and clean the valve guides; what would be the proper and best way to port the heads (Im used to rotary's so never ported a head before)

Thanks, Phil.

Go to up to obd1 run a boomslang harness try to get a P28 if you can or p08 will work, you can mod a p07 but it's a bitch honestly.

for your second question : Just pop into google porting heads engine porting D series porting and a few other queries you'll find more then enough info.

Porting is an art to do well, if you've never messed with a motor other then rotaries porting is a whole different ball game then a ported rotary. Spend some time reading.

Your brother is correct porting is a way to make power, but there are also a lot of other ways to do so with a Honda.

About the porting, i would take it to the machine shop. I did that to mine, and also got the head milled with flat faced valves. It made a difference i would say.

Aggressive streetports porting on a rotary is an art as well. If you make one wrong slip-up on the tempate than you get collant into the engine and boom boom...engines gone. Seen some bad porting jobs.

but ill go by the shop tommorow and try to trade my chipped ecu for a P28 or P07

Ill probably port it myself, I have a buddy who ports intake mani's...is this much harder than a head port...?

I have a friend that works for one and said he would port the intake mani and head for me, but I like to do stuff on my own. I love cars and hate having other ppl work on them. Hopefully more ppl will post on this thread with prior knowledge on porting to give some pointers.

As long as you aren't going for the last ounce of power and super aggressive if he can do a nice IM you'll be ok letting him clean your head up a touch

Kinda but highly recommended not to.

I'd go as far as saying don't even try but in theory you can.

Well P28's are hard to come by in the virgin form (unless paying a arm and a leg for) and in this economy im not paying that much for an ECU. I really don't care about racing it, just want to get rid of my DPFI and go MPFI so I can make it up a damn hill without it bogging so much (damn little engines).

What ECU can i get just for it to work??? I would set my buddy club controller to the normal P28 vtec "kick-in-point."

Just want to get this head on.

IMO, I would just forego porting the head. I don't think it will make that much of a difference, plus you said the motor isn't really for performance. At the most, I would just gasket match the ports.

If you are going OBD1, then a P28 is the best option to use. I've gotten some P28's off of ebay for less than $100, with shipping.

Ill check Ebay right now.

The only reason I dont want to make it extremely fast is because Im getting a bike and saving my money (SV650 V-twin), and im swapping the engine. So why dump money into this.

The P28 will run B16's too right?

there are a few p28's in the marketplace. i've seen them within the past few days. also, instead of porting and polishing the throttle body, why not opt for a b series one?
