Default Gutting the Bee-itch.

Well all of the back has been gutted for awhile now, since I bought it, and I just dry iced a section of tar off today.....I was wondering how to take off the plastic on the hatch itself, do I unscrew the four screws first or rip off the other piece first then unscrew it? And how about the plastic around the rear windows - looks like it connects to the roof? And yes Im sure its simple, but I want to know so I dont break anything, and I can sell the shizzle my nizzle afterwards.

for the plastic on the hatch...done it many times.
there will be I think 4 or 6 plastic screws that come out, and 2 metal ones on each side. take the screws out first, then pull it down and it should slip out from around the rear window.
as for the plastic around the rear windows, never done it, but let me know when u do it, i gotta do the same thing to get to my fuel door cable

Yes Dry Ice worked great on getting that ish to come off without any mess, well I took off the hatch plastic also now....but I think I'll wait till later to remove the side quarter panel plastic by the windows, because it looks like the interior light would also have to be removed, I dunno?

Just leave the dry ice on a section of the dry ice at a time (few minutes or so). I still used a hammer and chissel, but the dry ice makes to tar break off in big pieces, and doesnt leave such a mess.

you can also get a fire extinguisher filled with co2 and use that to freeze the tar. a friend of mine did that and it came off in big *** junks with no mess as well.

I bet if your on a really low budget you can get some of those "Compessed air" keyboard cleaners, turn it upside down and those will freeze it, those are also just co2 in a can.

Ok playa... Find ALL the visible plastic screws and remove them. when you cant find anymore, use a panel puller (available at any snap on truck for $67 and it wont break clips or panels ) and pry off all the paneling. for the roof liner, you have to remove the dome light first and then rip off that upper piece. For the side panels around the rear windows on the side, you have to rip out the lower part where the speakers are held before you remove the upper piece. To remove the lower piece, you might need to take off the side step plastic molding thats attached to the lower side of your door thats underneath when you close it. Those parts are ALL clips.

Have fun.

question

has anybody figured out how much weight they've saved? It seems like there's barely any weight in the car to begin with.

You save lil less than 100LBS.

I took all the interior panels and put it on a large weight scale thats accurate down to the milli-ounce or whatever... Less than 100LBS.

Its all a matter of opinion, some thinks it looks good with, some thinks it looks good without. But IMO, just like a sexy Asian girl, it looks better stripped.
