need advice on tires
I am at the point again where I need new tires on my '07 Si. I have lost my hook up on take-offs, so I will have to go new this time.
I will most likely be going with 225/45/17 on the size. I am looking for something that will provide decent grip and performance (better than the oem michelins) while giving me tread life comparable to the oem michelins (around 30k for me). I really have no idea what tire would be the best bang for the buck here so I am looking for suggestions.
A friend told me that Sumitomo tires are supposed to be pretty good. Has anyone had experience with them?
I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or experiences with tires to aid my decision.

im rollin the falken ziex's size 225/45/17. pretty much the same as you.
i like how they look, plus the added traction also makes it more enjoyable to drive.
they grip really good in the canyons.
i think the only downfall on them is that i think the stock p.o.s michelins have a little less road noise. other than that i love them. im most likely gonna pick up another set from jhpusa soon.

i had the ziex 512's on my integra and they really screamed on concrete when they started wearing down. i liked the kumho ecsta asx better because of that, which is what i get after the ziex.
op: what kind of tires are you looking for? all-season? summer?

I'm rocking Yokahama s.Drive 235/40R17's (Wheels are 17x7.5)
they have nice grip, and I don't think they're noisy at all. I had the Khumo Ecsta ASX's on my old car and I was happy wit them.

If you are looking for an all-season tire I would recommend the BFG Supersport A/S. Great wet and dry handling, good in light snow, mileage will be about what you want and they are reasonably priced. I have a set on my winter wheels and love them. I ran across a good deal on them and almost bought a set for my summer wheels but went with the Sumitomo HTRZIII which would be my recommendation for a summer tire. Reasonably priced, good performance and like another poster said, made in Japan.

I had Toyo Proxes 4s on my old EP3 and i never lost grip goin round turns. Stuck very well to the road. They are a very good all season tire, they handle dry conditions wonderfully as well as rain and snowy conditions. Highly recommended by me but i think they may be relatively expensive. Im gettin a set as soon as my POS stock michelins are gone.
Thanks for all of the input so far. I've been busy the last few days so I'm just now getting back to Honda-Tech.
My Si is slightly modified....Injen SRI and a Vibrant StreetPower catback exhaust (see sig)
I'm not really sure on this. I live in Greenville South Carolina where it doesn't stay cold for all that long. We usually don't see snow and sometimes there will be ice or freezing rain. I can drive in these conditions just fine but I try to avoid it if at all possible because of the idiots out there who think they can and really can't.
All this being said, I think I would be fine through the winter with summer tires. Summer tires should still work on cold days right? What exactly is the difference between summer tires and all-seasons?

I'm absolutely loving my Bridgestone Pole Position RE960AS tires. I've got 27K on them so far with very little wear. They stick wet or dry, I can take curves at full normal dry speeds in a good rain storm and still feel very confident, unlike the OEM's. Rated for 50K, I'm sure I will get at least that much. Their quiet on the road but do have a stiff side wall as you would expect on a high performance tire. So far, I would say that I would purchase them again with-out hesitation.

Sporting the Falken Azeniz RT/615 and loving them, are my second set, also pretty good on wet weather. i live in Los Angeles so i dont need to worry about the rain much
lol they wont last more then 10k with aggressive driving and wont be that good in the rain if ya got money to blow on tires every 10k this is a nice sticky tire for you..
I'm starting to narrow down my choices on tires but I am still very undecided. Out of all the tires suggested so far, here are the ones that I would consider getting based on their price, tread-wear ratings, and reviews:
-Falken Ziex 512 or 912 (what's the difference?): 360AA $92 or $95
-Kuhmo ASX: 420AA A $90
-Yokahama s.Drive: 300AA A $115
-BFG Super Sport A/S: 400AA A $123
-Sumitomo HTRZIII: 300AA A $92
-Sumitomo HTR+: 360AA A $86
It seems like Falkens got recommended a lot. Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the Ziex 512 and 912?
Based on the tires I listed above, what would be the best option? Any other suggestions out there? I really have no idea when it comes to tires so I'll take all the help I can get. Thanks again.

ill vouch for those Yokohama S Drives. with my buddy club N+ it handles like no other.
i had the ziex before these and i swear they lasted me like 7 months. n not all of that time my rims were mounted on my car

I'd go with the kuhmo asx out those choices. My bro had them on his Del Sol and they rode very well with and very quiet. Also the tread rating is very good so you'll get alot of miles out of them.
