dowel pins

dowel pins
what exactly do dowel pins do? I took my head off and seemed to have none. All four intake side head stud holes seem like dowel pins can fit in them. Is this where they go? Btw i have a b18c1

they align the combustion chambers over the cylinders.
they just make sure everything is right where it should be as the headbolt holes throuh the head are bigger than the bolts themselves.
they go at the front iirc.
