How Can You Tell Different Between CRX Si & HF By Looking At VIN?
So, How can you tell the different between CRX Si & HF by looking at the VIN #???
What I'm try to get at is if I swap my HF engine for an Si engine and bring the car to smog, can the smog guy be able to tell that the new engine is an Si (beside looking at the engine code stampped on the block)?
Anyone has done this and be able to smog it every time without a problem. Thanks

everytime i smog my car they could care less about whats in it, theyre busy trying to get money. if it looks stock then theyll smog it, just make sure itll pass
^I heard ya. But not with the smog shop near my house. Last time my CRX fail the timing, they unbolted the dis, aiming the timing gun and tell me to come over and twist the dis. I meant, they goes by the book with every little thing.
From what I can tell from looking at some VINs:
DX/HF = JHMED83---S------
Si/SE = JHMED93---S------
ED8 = 1.5L
ED9 = 1.6L
