1988 b16 EF questions.
hes asking $1700. its got a b16a swap along with the b16 trany. 90k miles on the motor.it has minor rust around the rear fender wells. is that repairable? Basicly is that a good deal? and I have no clue on how much rust repair is. So any help on that topic would help.

I would do it. the motor and tranny sell for $1600+ from importers. the car looks decent, and the rust can be stopped, but I wouldn't do much more than that, as it would involve a lot of money.
so the rust can be stopped? If so you think then after its stop I could paint over it to at least get rid of the discoloration? Ive heard rust in that area iss pretty commen with EF's and honda in general. I would deff put some 15" wheels on there. those dont look right. I would probably throw a carbonfiber hood on there also. as primer grey isnt very attractive.lol I wish it were an EG though
but i only got $2k. Anything that I should know to look and listen for with a b16? The reason im buying this is one, its 5speed and my accord is auto. 2 its a b16, 3. I got my butt handed to me by a sentra SE-R in my f22 acccord (I/H/E carbon hood). I'm just tired of my auto trans. all my other cars are manual.

yes, there are many products for stopping rust/cleaning it up. and you can look for that rear trim above the bumper at a junkyard.
make sure the car can rev all the way out on the road, and that you hear or feel vtec, look for check engine light (make sure it works when you put the key in the run position too) sometimes b16s make kindof a rattle sound coming from what I think is the valves clicking or something, but the sound I am thinking of isn't a problem, maybe just need of a valve adjustment.
hope this helps.

So rev it to like almost redline? feel/hear vtec, and make sure the check engine light is on? shouldnt it be off?
I mean make sure the light is functional. when you turn the car on, the CEL comes on for a second then turns off. if the guy is trying tto hide problems he could take out the CEL. once the car is on and you drive it around make sure the CEL doesn't come on.
you should take it to about 8k rpms, but make sure the guy knows you are going to do it for testing purposes, rather than just joyriding, but make sure you don't accidentally overrev.
if everything is functional, this sounds like a good buy.

to each his own... lol (not a fan of red rims)
don't get a crappy axle back. I have a video posted in the thread about ef exhausts - which to buy if you want to hear what my setup sounded like, and cost ~$400 to do.
