Default 88 CRX HF clutch cable/pedal problem

Okay I'm not sure what happened but I hope someone can help me out I couldn't find any simular topics or problems. I have a 88 CRX HF D15b2 and I belive a cable tranny that i'm going to sell until this problem came up. Today when I tried to start the car I pushed down on the clutch pedal like usual to start the car and before I turned the key I felt the pedal loose play.(the spring to the clutch pedal is still intact). the car starts with it pushed in all the way but wont get into gear. I don't know much about older cable tranny's. diagrams or theory's are greatly appriciated. please help, bump

Thanks for bumps. " Time for a Integra Da Cable" Is a DA cable better than the one that comes in the HFrx's? I need a diagram or someone who knows about cable tranny's to tell me where the cable connects to the tranny, I found the speedo cable but not the clutch, please help get this hf in gear!

I was having the same problem two years ago, where I kept snapping transmission cables. So I started checking and I come to find out that the pedal bracket assembly was cracked, so I replaced it and the problem went away. Maybe you my want to check it out. I had a friend that was going through the same problem and he also had a cracked pedal bracket assembly. Its not really hard to replace, its just very time consuming. Good luck.

found the location of the cable through an old haynes repair manual the cable is in the front like I thought and it looks like the adjusting nut is loose because I could turn it by hand and im not sure how tight it is supposed to be or possibly the bracket broke I'll try and get pics up and update but getting closer I hope.

!!!!problem solved!!!! (adjusting nut came loose due to bottoming-out, front of car is slammed) this post might help with someone having a simular problem with their cluch cable. (I was driving it the day before the problem happend) anyways after removing the radiator hose that was blocking the view of the clutch cable I took a good look and the brackets were pretty old but still holding, and I could wiggle the cable around the bracket and clutchrelease arm. I tightned the adjusting nut and noticed it get tighter and was no longer loose, started her up and got in every gear no grinds!!! the nut was black and I belive that it got loose in the firstplace because the car is really slamed in the front and i think the scraping over speedbumps vibrated it loose. thanks everyone and ht.

I don't think bottoming out caused this. Generally 3 things happen with cable clutched rexes;

1.) As the clutch wear limits reach end of service the cable needs adjusted, turn the nut and pull to remove the slack in the cable.

2.) Cable stretches or snaps, replace and adjust as above.

3.) Adjuster bracket fatigues and cracks, remove replace, or have it welded and adjust as above.

I really like the older cable trans'd cars. Its a good measure of how hard you are being on the friction surface of the clutch. If you are constantly adjusting your clutch cable, well then you need to adjust your clutch driving style.

IMO better than hydraulic clutch where you don't know its gone until its gone.

The only hassle with cable trans are the 3 points above.

I have a 91 Honda CRX with automatic transmission that starts to either slip or just won't go into gear above 2nd gear. When on the highway, the car drives normal until i get above 2nd gear and it doesn't like to go into [D] ...it starts to rev really high i ave to downshift to re-engage the gear. Could this be something with fluids or a part that i should check out (such as a cable or housing)? Or do you think i need to completely replace the transmission or other? Thanks!
