2nd gear grind
ok, to start i am currently driving my brothers 90 std civic hatch, 4 speed tranny
ok well when i start up the car and go drive the transmission sounds fine with no grinds or anything. after about a half hour of driving the 2nd gear will start to grind slightly and just gets worse the more i drive it. if i double clutch going from first to second it seems to not grind, but if i dont it does. and when i downshift it always grinds if its warmed up. it seems like the more its driven at once, the worse the grind is. i have a few quarts of GM syncromesh, would that help the grind? thanks guys

i've heard the mix is where its at.
all hearsay tho. I have a few bottles on the shelf in my workshop, never needed to use them, just got them for a really good price so i scooped em up.

4 liters is way way too much.. the d transmission takes 2 quarts on the dot, which is 1.8L. Honda MTF is the way to go, imho, but it sounds like your transmission is heating up too hot and causing issues with the trans fluid. I have the same issue, but with a race transmission with a 4.9 final drive. It works great for about 20 mins of normal driving, but longer than that and you cant shift into second without grinding.
you may look at something like Redline MTL or MT-90 that will work better with the higher temps, but my guess is there is something wrong in the transmission that is causing the problem, like a bad bearing or something.

haha no offense but no thanks. ill just try the syncromesh and if it doesnt solve the problem ill work from there. $600 for a tranny rebuild is damn expensive...
