Default 235-40-17's on a 7 inch rim?????

Hey guys I'm wondering if you can get a 235-40-17 on a 7 inch rim? I'm looking at a set of NT01's and Nitto says that it should be on a 8 inch rim. I know Edo has run a 245 on what I thought was a 7 inch rim.... I figured I'd ask the group before purchasing. I really dont think it will be a problem thought.

The 245/45 series has more sidewall and it fits fine on a 7" wheel.
The 235/40 Has a very small sidewall and might be harder on a 7" wheel and the it will bow the tire in the middle and look like a bike tire.

Yeah that makes sence. Seeing how the 245-45-16 has almost a full inch of side wall more than the 235-40-17. I guess I'll just look for some nice inexpencive 17x7.5's Thanx for the input Edo..

Nitto's specs only approve rim widths of 8.0-9.5 inches for the 235/40-17 NT-01. I do not recommend going outside their approved rim widths, especially for a tire that's going to be used on the racetrack. Go outside the approved rim widths, and stress and heat can build up in the sidewalls. If you want to use that size tire, get at least a 17x8.

It's a safety issue, not an appearance issue. The tire manufacturers come up with specs based on their engineering analysis of stresses during normal use (and with an R compound track tire, "normal use" means racetrack use).

I wouldn't. But hey, it's your car, so you can do whatever you want with it.
