a gsr should be decent on highway gas mileage. i run a b16 and i get over 30 mpg on the highway. a ls would get you a little bit better gas mileage but i dont think its worth the trouble to just switch out 5th gear

there isn't a huge difference between the MPG of the two. i ran the gsr box for awhile and it's fine except for the 1-2 drop. the b16 gears are tighter and the 5th is even a little lower but i didn't notice any mpg drop. i just cruise like 300 rpm higher with the ITR transmission now.

its not the fifth gear you need to worry about it is the final drive ratio that will yield a better "mph" on the highway but then you will sacrafice a bit of your low gearing from first to forth... It all depends do you want to save money in the long run or be quick off the line?

I have a b16 trans with the ls fifth and final and I love it but I also dont do the quarter...

Dang that's not much difference. At 70 I'm at around 3500 rpm with my stock GS-R trans.

OP this would probably get better responses in the transmission/drivetrain forum.

yeah but you have to understand that hondas are built to rev high and use less fuel... but the difference will net you better gas milage estimated about 30 to 50 miles more per tank

yea my gs-r tranny was my favorite to be honest, it let me acquire high speeds easier because of the gear ratio's, with the b16 tranny i run out of 3rd gear at 80 mph at 8k rpms and run out of 4th at 111 mph at 8k rpms then come 5th it bogs because it doesn't keep up the momentum because of the long more gas mileage friendly final drive.. so maybe i just have a different 5th gear, and not a different final drive, not sure.. cause 1-4 are super close, 5th is kinda out there by itself.. kinda like pluto...
