Default paint removal on a cf hood

I picked up a cf oem hood from a guy and the center of the hood is painted red. I don't think it's cleared over because you can feel the ridge where the cf and the red come together. Is there a way to take off this red paint and not damage the clear underneath? He thought maybe I could wet sand it, but I just wanted to check to make sure. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Honestly there is no way you're going to get the red off without hurting the clear. Wetsanding will take a loooooonnnnggg time and it could be done, but you would still hit the clear under and around the red.

I would plan on shooting another clear coat if you remove that red. A good size sanding block would help a lot to remove it evenly...

Wow, thanks for all the replies! I know I'm gonna have to reclear the hood and all, and I'm in the process of doing some minor body repairs. I'm gonna have the whole car painted soon, I just wanted the red off for now since I traded the guy my stock hood for this cf one and now it's the only hood I can roll with. Think I'll try the thinner idea first and see what happens. Thanks!

GO GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT ......

thinners will work if the paint he used was from a spray can .. and if it is Laquer also if u sand off the clear on the paint and use thinners it will break down the base coat and will come off

It can if the shop puts it in the can for them.

If you get solvent it'll eat it away after awhile.

Gun wash will do that also.

Very true, but that's not what he was saying. He said if the paint was from a spray can then thinners will break it down, referring to the weaker off-the-shelf non-catalyzed rattle can paints.

If the OPs hood has regular spray paint on it then thinner will certainly break it up, but if the red is real cured automotive paint then it won't do anything. That's the only point I am trying to make...
