Default Obsessive Detailer

Ok, class...

Sorry if its a repost but I think everyone needs to take a look at this guy's intensive, obsesive, and completely psychopathic work. The thread isn't too old so I'm not sure if anyone else had seen this yet. 10,000 British Pounds(sp? lol) for a wax??? You gotta read this...super long thread with endless pics... if you scroll down fast enough it looks like a flip book.

In your opinion (250 words or less) do you think his work is over-the-top, or is he an example we should all follow? Please discuss lol.

It made me tired just reading through it. And holey hell talk about long load time.

First and foremost I think that his attention to detail is really his primary focus, I think he might have un-diagnosed OCD, some of the things he was doing were pretty ridiculous. (I think he at one point noticed a half millimeter blob of paint and complained that it was too late to return the car).
I am not saying that he doesn't do superior work, however I think at least 9 out of 10 steps that he uses are completely redundant.
Besides the Swissvax I didn't see a single product that he used that I have not had some experience with.

Onto the wax though. Zymol and Swissvax both manufacture these super-duper-ridiculously-overpriced supposedly uber-rare waxes. I beleive that Zymol's is called Vintage. I am assuming that the Swissvax has the same type of agreement. When you buy the Zymol it does in fact cost about eight thousand dollars. However you get a lifetime of free refills, so in reality you only buy it once.

Now it is a very nice wax to be sure, however wax is simply the icing on the detailing cake. The prep work that is put in, (compounding, polishing etc) is what really makes the paint look its best. I am sure the wax looks amazing, however I doubt anyone would be able to see a night and day difference between and excellently prepped car with a nice pure carnuba on it vs. his car with the high-end wax.

So in my opinion I don't think the wax is worth the crazy amount of money it costs, but to each their own.

Finally, I don't know if I buy some of the claims he makes in his thread, such as that he removes and completely cleans his wheels 4-5 times a week, or that he washes the car every other day.
It can't be good for the car, let alone the wheels and studs to be jacked up 5 times a week and loosened and tightened that often.

edit: I totally went over 250 words. My bad

Lol no man theres no limit on the reply I'm no teacher. I'm still learning tons myself. I ran across this and while I was envious at his undying passion for the perfect detail, he lost me. I found that within five minutes of him completing whatever it is he is trying to accomplish was ruined upon the failure of immediate storage within a vaccum -sealed facility.

I completely agree with you about the prep work being the most important step. He said himself he couldn't visually prove a difference in clarity after the first 7 or 8 layers of his final application sealant/wax. He applied a total of 52, right? As for it not being good for the car to be jacked up and wrenched on twice a week, who knows? Maybe its good for it lol. I personally don't think its good for a new paint job to be sealed so tightly.

I just can't believe everything he did to that poor car. I mean, honestly without trying to insult the guy, that car wasn't nearly nice enough to be treated that well. I'd like to drive it; it looks quite fun, but really...its no one-of-three-produced paint code Murcielago or anything. I know its the first one off the assembly line, which means it should be in the Manufacturer's museum/collection hall.

But in the end I just can't fathom his level of such perection-seeking. He makes a lot of good points about cleaning a vehicle after its normal wear-and tear-use and how to make it extra minty but a lot of stuff you just have to take with a bit of hilarity. It makes me want to get a paint depth gague so I can see how deep I need to take the paint and be able to make better paint repair decisions. I wish the guy all the best but I think he needs medication. That is all.
