Just out of curiosity, will a body kit for a 91-95 civic hatch back fit on a del sol?

I know the size for both are extremely close, but i have never attempted to see if they will fit.

But to help the op's question, do you mean the 92-95 civics? Not the 91 because its a different chassis.

 

sorry yes 92-95, and flame away it was an honest question because I simply don't know.

Recently the front bumper was destroyed by a run away jeep and I'm wondering because I was offered a full kit for cheap instead of having to go back to junk yards and try to find a front fascia.

any help would be appreciated.

 

and before I get flamed too hard, this is more of a curiosity than anything.. if the answer is a simple no then I'll go out and attempt to see what I can find, and if nothing else I can pick up a full body kit for a del sol for replacement if needed.

no it wont, the front ends look way different. maybe the sideskirts, but none of the body panels are the same so i doubt it.

No it's just really sad because the del Sols are dying off and this guy is going to be helping that cause. It's hard to find a clean del Sol and this guys making that worse.

 

nothing from that body kit will fit. eveyrthing is different. trust me ive tried it. but on the other hand, either way your gonna have to cut, glass and bondo any kit you put on. haha. so it really doesnt matter. ive done it, took allot of work, but ive done it. i say go for it if you really want to have some custom work. but the answer is simply no, no f ing way anything will fit. sorry bro

 

while I respect your opinion, I want to make something very clear. This is a temporary fix until I can find a genuine Honda part to fix the front end.

If your definition of a clean del sol would be bone stock then yes it is not going to be stock. If you would like to know the complete plan I haven't quite figured that out yet. I do know it will be original (as in one off) and it will still have the classic lines of the del sol with finished.

The one overall I know I want for this car is to be a sleeper in the purest sense of the word. The only external appearance of performance I want to show will be the wheels/tires in order to increase the contact patch and the exhaust tip because the stock pipes are too small.

The reason I asked this question is that I currently do not have a functioning front fascia and to me it would be worse to ride around with an f'ed up front end that I can fix by throwing on a body kit until I can find replacements.

Spring is here and I love my del sol (waited 5 years to find this car and have had it for 2 without messing it up)

I can't believe you found a 97 Si. You are so lucky. lol (I don't like the VTEC as much as the Si because i'm a SOHC VTEC kinda guy).

del Sols aren't very popular cars, so the parts can be difficult to find.

 

some guy near me owns 8 del sols and i always see del sols for sale around here.

 

Stick with OEM.

 

You want a new bumper check Craigs list. I got two doors and a bumper for 100$ All OEM. And in good condition. Hell the bumper was brand new. Look at my build thread for pictures.

 

Just an idea, but since 5th gen Civics are pretty common in junkyards, have you considered doing a coupe front end conversion? I belive you would need a hood, fenders and grill/fascia and I can't remember if you need to weld the fenders or not though. If you're looking at customizing the car a little anyway, now would be the perfect excuse

 

He will have to cut the new and old fenders in half and then weld the front half of the Civic fender to the back half of the del Sol fenders.

They have to be welded in just the right spot though.

The parts he'd need from a '92-'95 Civic coupe or hatch are the hood, front bumper, fenders, headlights and corner lights.

He very well might need a 5th gen Civic core support.

Then he'd need to put it all on the car (core support requires welds being cut and then the new one welded back in place) and then paint it all.

It'd be much easier and cheaper to find a replacement bumper for a del Sol.

 

Not to mention a del Sol front bumper looks great when you put a lip on it. No need to swap the EG front end on.

If you think that the 97 del sol si is rare with the D16Y8, try finding the one with no major mechanical malfunctions, clean body with no rust damage, 5spd transmission, and here is the one that kills me (no front fog lights) because i always thought the little round ones in the bumper was ugly... well now I am trying to find just the bumper with no fog lights..

easier said than done i promise you.

it could have smashed through the back and i honestly wouldn't care because i can replace the tub/trunk/rear bumper/and everything else in the rear easier than trying to find a front bumper with no fog lights

if anyone has any leads (car-parts.com only has the ones with fog lights)

 

all you need is 96 and up front bumper. i think those came with no fog lights. im pretty sure, i may be off a year, correct me if i am.

 

if i remember correctly only the 97's came without the fog lights and even that was an option not the standard (again this is my recollection not fact)

I also remember less than 100,000 Del Sols sold Nation Wide and over the course of 10-15 years a majority of them are blocks of metal/plastic.

So my only option unless I want to pay something close to 500-a grand for a front bumper or 300-500 for a full body kit that is replaceable I may go with the body kit and reinforce the crap out of it.

one thing i can't stand is the ricer kids driving around with a body kit that flexes in the wind by going 40 mph.

Maybe if i get a bug up my butt I will buy an older bumper and fiberglass over the fog holes or just try to create a mold out of my current broken bumper and create my own fiberglass OEM style bumper (this is a bit costly but may be an option if i get some free time)
