It will be interesting to see how many people actually pay and how many fade away here or SHO or some other site where no one has the timerity to ask them for money for something they feel they are entitled to...

i honestly wouldnt mind paying the $6/year that they are asking for. but to tell you the truth, its not worth it for me personally. i rarely visit there anymore. too much bs for me. a year ago, i wouldve paid that $6 in a heartbeat. i learned so much from that site before purchasing my lude.
I wish Chris had started charging $15 a year or something like that 2 years ago, then HP.com would probably still be around.
I personally never visit preludeonline.com, and it looks like a much less featured site than HP.com ever was. They can start charging now because they have a monopoly on the "prelude specific" sites. preludeonline.com is just another commercial bulletin board system like every other site uses (zeroforum, phpBB, UBB), Chris wrote all his own code, which I respect.....

I can't believe they locked everyone out. I could see if they charged $6 for new members... But many of us have been there contributing for years since the beginning of that site even before we split off from http://www.Honda-acura.net.
I don't plan on paying or posting there anymore.
The thing that irks me most is that now anyone can go to the site and read and do research and get information for free. But if you want to post and actually contribute useful information to the board, you now have to pay for the privilage of sharing your knowlege!
Blah. It's dumb. I'm irritated right now. And I probably won't be contributing over there anymore.
It's not the $6. I can certainly afford $6/yr. It's the principle of charging the people that really contribute and make the site great and then at the same time allowing freeloaders to get the information without having to pay that really bothers me...
Andrew - who knows this post is rambling, but hopes that some of the knowlegable people from http://www.preludeonline.com will now also come over and post on this board...

I'm tending to agree with you...it does bother me that I went back to respond to several threads I was helping people with, and now I have to pay $6 to answer them. Hmm I have to think about this.
Trending Topics
i dont think they will be getting the traffic that they expect, the reason hp.com got the traffic was the setups, and the tech articles. And as a forum site preludeonline lacks. I never posted on that site much and dont plan on it either lets just hope honda-tech.com doesnt follow this trend.

Aklucsarits is exactly right, why would the main contributors pay money while guests get the information for free? I don't really understand the concept of a guest on a pay-for-use site anyways.

Guys, though you can see the forums as guests, you can not view any of the information in any forum, except OT, Gen Discussion, and the Parts for Sale forums. The FAQ and rest of the forums are blocked from searching or viewing. This should also cut down a lot of the 'BS' that was mentioned. A lot of members that were just there to flame and create problems will not be willing to pay a fee to continue those problems.
It's $6. I don't see the problem. Malken00 has been saying for some time now that the sponsors do not cover the costs of the site. We all knew this was coming. Why should he eat the additional costs...I sure wouldn't. He doesn't even own a Prelude anymore.

Well, I'm not sure what I'm going to do. But I am going to hold off paying for anything for the time being. This might actually be a blessing in disguise. I spend too much time on various forums as it is

Quick question for you guys. Is $6 really that much? And for those who say that they shouldn't have to pay to 'contribute', are the admins suppose to go and decides out of thousands who is and who isn't contributing enough to post without paying?
Yeah I understand for some people it's the principle, but as things go, it does take money to run a site. Hell I would pay to keep this forum open as well. I find the FI on this site a good source of knowledge. I don't really even go to the Prelude forum here.
I really don't understand why there is such an issue with the $6 fee. If it were only for new members, would that make you guys happier? Then people would just say malken00 is taking advantage of the recent events and those guys would be unhappy. Either way, someone is not going to be happy. Malken00 did his best to keep the site membership free, and believe me there were a lot of discussion as to how to keep it so.
In the end it's either this way or no site. Perhaps hondaprelude would be open if the same measures were taken there. Would that have been such an issue? Really....think about it. Knowing what you know now, would a membership fee at hondaprelude been accepted or not?

anubyss, i dont think anyone cares about the $6. everyone already knows its not that much. stop stating the obvious.
malken did bring up a good point that with this new fee, the quality of all the forums there should pick up greatly. all the idiots wont pay $6, theyll just flock back to h-a (hopefully), sho (hopefully), or here (hopefully not). the enthusiasts who really care will pay the fee.

I beg to differ. For some people it is about the money and only about the cost. For others it's the principle. For most it's not the money, but it definitely is the $6 for some.

Nah... if they really keep everyone from posting unless they pay someone else will just download and install a free bbs system and bury PO.com.
People think the net should be free. Period. You have to have some serious value add for a lot of people to pay. Yeah, you have some really cool or loyal people that will pay. But the majority just won't unless again there is some really compelling reason to pay.
Hell, I am tempted to throw up a free bbs just to **** off joon525, that dsp71 idiot and many of the other racer wanna be moron moderators over there. I already have had several hosting companies offer to host it for free. But after 4 years frankly I just need a damn break for a while. I will probably come back with something that will just blow everyone away at some point. I just need to be more organized and get more help with the site. BTW, despite the stuff I have said in the past I really don't think Malken is a bad guy. He just associates with a bunch of ********.
Well PO sux !
I've been over there a good while and only rarely is to ask a question. It's usually to help someone out.
To have to pay to do that is stupid.
It's been said above, you pay to input but can take out for free !
What sort of craziness is that.
And being in the UK doesn't help.
I've not been on HP.com for a while for various reasons but wouldn't want it to go down like this. Even though i haven't seen eye-to-eye with chris recently his ideals for the site were good.
He'd never turf you out just 'cos you didn't agree with him, or expect you to pay up at a minutes notice. (maybe he should have)
I help run a club who have a forum as a part of their services . The forum is open for the public to use and this can cause problems similar to Chris' . The free-loaders always expect more than those that pay !
People don't usually realise what they've got until it's gone .

I don't think I'll bother with signing up for PO.com. I have rarely even bothered to post there. The few times I did I got flamed, and then the same **** heads were asking me questions
As a 3rd gen owner, I've learned everything I need to about the car with the exception of getting my hands dirty more often. Everytime I went to their 3rd gen forum I felt like I was stepping into junior high school. Tons and tons of newbie posts made by people who obviously didn't research anything, and accepted what ever nonsense that came out of someone else's mouth as the truth. Granted, I was a newbie once upon a time too, but I personally can't stand that BS anymore. It seems like that forum is just full of 16 year old kids with $2,000 beater rusted out S models that don't have a prayer of even being rust free someday. Maybe I should "graduate" and buy a newer one, but like everything else I do in life, I don't quit when I start something.
