About to purchase an Ap1 got some ?'s
Ok so for 8k, I'm about to get an 00 with about 100k on it. This isn't going to be my DD and 8-10k is just about my price range at the moment.
My question is at what mileage is the scheduled maintenance? Because it has not been done yet.
And how much does it usually cost?
I know there is a general FAQ for changing some things to ap2, but is there anything in particular I should ask the seller or anything I should be concerned about with an 00? The top was replaced a year ago, so that's new, the brakes, and tires as well.

no scheduled maint. for 105,000 miles. (I am 99% certain that's what it was).
Do you know if a compression test has been done lately? I would be curious to know what those numbers are.

No it has not. Are there any step by step instructions on how to do that exactly? I can purchase the tester at autozone today. What numbers should it be at and how many times to I try to crank the car?
compression in a fresh engine would be something like 260. So, I doubt you will see numbers like that. But, I would say as long as it is 220 or up, and you don't have a large variance between cylinders, then it should be ok.
I also believe it is easiest to pull the Fuel Pump/SRS fuse to keep the fuel out of the system...and just pull the plugs off of each coil.

pull the plugs out of the head, pull the fuse, stick the compression tester in, crank the car 4-5 times?
that's it?
Also, does anyone know the price of a timing belt water pump job or what else I should look for in this 00?
sounds like you've got the right idea for the compression test. Hold the throttle wide open while cranking. You will probably need a friend who could at least watch the compression gauge while you cranked.
There is no timing 'belt' on the S2000. It is a chain. It should be looked at and checked for slack at 100k.

Once you purchase it, i'd definitely change the fluid in the trans. & diff. Even if the seller says it's been changed, it's good piece of mind. Changing ALL the fluids wouldn't be a bad idea...
In addition to everything else that's been mentioned, check the plugs. They're cheap enough that I would just change them if they are still the originals or an inferior replacement.
Outside of that, just make sure you inspect EVERYTHING thoroughly. The S2000 is a fantastic car, but just like every other automobile, they don't always belong to fantastic owners.
Nope, not really. You can find one that only has 30k on it that was never cared for and completely abused, or you can find one that has 110k that was pampered from day one. It all depends on how well the care was maintained. It's a Honda. With proper care it'll run forever.
Bout to pick her up at 8.5k after tax and everything.
Anyone have any other suggestions as to what else I should do besides the plugs, tranny fluid wires, etc?
Gonna go find out how much the 100k maintenance will cost.

I just picked my '00 AP1 a couple months ago with ~94k on the clock. Here's what I have done by the way of maintenance:
* oil/filter change
* trans/diff fluid change
* cleaned AEM element
* new serpentine belt
* water pump/coolant
* plugs
yet to be done:
* valve adj
* tct
* vtec solenoid (got a small oil leak)
* idler pullies/alternator (something is putting drag on the serp. belt)
* clutch fluid change
* brake fluid change
Check out eBay for service manuals. I got the '00 shop manual and ETM together for $50. Compression test worked out to 215psi across all cylinders on mine. I picked mine up for < $8k and have probably put $500 in parts/fluids into it.

No need to change the TCT unless it's gone bad. Once it has you will here it, it's like valve tap only twice as fast. You can check youtube for the sound.
maintanence is cheap on these cars, as with any honda.
at that many miles, you're looking at tranny oil, differential oil, spark plugs, the usual.
just search google "s2000 manual" and you'll pull up either service manual or owners manual. It will direct you to the list of required maintenance.
For that many miles, don't buy from a young kid, they tend to beat on them more than the older fella's (at least 90% of the time anyway).

I haven't checked insurance yet. Which I know is foolish. But I can only assume it's probably the same if not slightly more than my red 4th gen prelude 4ws. My pops has a discount through liberty mutual. So we'll see.
Bout to cop that hard top too.
So the tensioner doesn't need to really be changed? is the water pump difficult to do in this car?

Ok Thanks! Is there a step by step on how to do it though? Or is it just:
pull the plugs out of the head, pull the fuse, stick the compression tester in, crank the car 4-5 times?
that's it?

This will give you a general idea of what you are doing. Its on a B series but you get the point.
