^ what he said and its prolly your tct(timing chain tensioner) its gotta be one of the two so get a new one cause they do go pretty often and get your valves adjusted. dont throw out your old tct cause you can reuse it and it will be fine you just gotta get that worm screw/shaft thing inside sandblasted.

i have been finding a lot of random info regarding broken or cracked retainers... causing the valve to be out of place... i haven't had the valves adjusted in the 13,000 miles (year i have owned it)

have you over reved your car? the reataoners crack if you money shift or just **** up in general and over rev. A cracked retainer wouldnt make noise it would just drop a valve over time and you need a new motor.

how can I check the tct?? I have basic knowledge, but I really don't want to start disasembling my engine in my tiny garage with limited tools??? where would you recommend I bring the head to have it looked at and or parts replaced.. I don't really want to go to a dealer.... performance shop??? or engine place??? thanks guys

you cant really check the tct you just remove it and put on your new one its roughly a 20-30 min job. and i can really recomend where to go and get your retainers checked out cause most shops/dealers wont even know what they are looking for. your best bet is to go to s2ki.com and research they have information on there about everyhting how to change the tct how to adj your valves how to check your retainers.

Yes and to remove the head would be a large waiste of time to diagnose any of those problems. The tct is 2 bolts and a 4 dollar nut and bolt you must buy. and the valve spring retainers can be checked with the VC off and thats 5 or 6 10mm bolts, two cam sensors, and a pcv. O and your coil packs one 10mm each and a 6mm allen head for the coil pack cover. no biggy at all. fo real.

Yes sir I have the package still for the nut that you need for it. It is a M5-.80 nut and you will need the bolt to go with it the bolt is about 2.5 inches long. The bolt goes in place of the valve you remove from the TCT. the bolt threads into the worm gear and you jam use the jam nut you purchased to relieve pressure from the TCT. after doing this you can just tap it out no prob. I bought everything from Lowes. There is a right up on S2ki for more info.

When the TCT goes bad it sounds like a card in bike spokes or a rattle how ever you want to discribe it. Like someone said before though you can salvage the worm gear by sandblasting it. Basically when your TCT goes bad its just exssesive wear between the piston that rides on the timing chain guides and the worm gear thats in that piston. By sandblasting the worm gear you add friction between the two. This means that it takes more force to depress the piston and this means that your chain stays tighter longer. and you save about $150.00 .lol

timing chain tensioner most likely. i just had to change mine and i'm at 60 k miles.
i thought i had valvetrain noice but it eneded being the timing chain tensioner. its a very common probalem for the s2000.

Mine does something kinda close... but only on "warm" start ups'....???It "clicks" with the start revs and slowly dissapates after time. Well, at least I don't hear it anymore... anyway, it NEVER does it when it's cold. ??? anyone??

lol. that isnt a tct. that is rod knock. Are you new to s2000's? Make sure you refill your oil. Most of the older models burn oil. I bet you were VERY low.
