shim or not to shim?
a friend of mine told me i need to shim my oil pump, he did it on his setup and said it worked great, ive heard of people using washers but he said just put a 10mm nut on the spring.. what do u think? im gonna tune to 20 lbs and was wondering if shimming the oil pump is something that needs to b done on a setup like this? any input would b great thanx

they r 10.1 for a ls motor, i have a b16 head and itll b around 9.6 to 1.. higher compression helps spool the turbo quicker, we have a real good tuner up here and all my friends setups r atleast 10.1 and have done great so thats what i chose to do

if they are ls pistons the b16 head has smaller combustyion chambers which will raise compression
that being said your compression will be 10.1:1 . 10.1 is fine for boost. if you have a good tuner you can runer highe rcompression on pump gas and make really nic epower. lower compression will just take more timing to compensate and make about the same power and the 10.1 will give it better low end when out of boost than the 9.6. im running 10.6:1 in my car daily driven 16 psi on an sc63 pump gas no problems

I have had people do this on the honda motor when going NA or turbocharging. DO NOT DO THIS. This creates too much oil pressure at higher rpms with the turbocharger on, and you will blow the seals out of it, even with a -3AN line. Putting in a restrictor in the oil feed defeats the purpose of using these shims or other modifications to the oil pump or oil pick up. I've just had 2 turbo submitted to Garrett for warranty (which WILL be denied, I promise you) because oil pressure was reaching over 120psi at the line killing the turbo.
This is an unnecessary modification from the intent of Hondas design. I strongly urge against doing this modification.

a slight bump in oil pressure never hurt anything. if you can add 10-15psi of oil pressure it would be fine.
however....if you engine is assembled correctly and your oil pump is in good condition plus you have a good oil pressure gauge and its making over 75psi then this mod is unnecessary.

This is something that the NA guys have done for years. Yes you just add a washer between the crown of the bronze bolt and the pump. I've never heard of anyone doing this on a turbo though. Just make sure there is a good restrictor in the oil feed line. I would also test the pressure of the line between the oil restrictor and turbo just to make sure there isn't too much just to be sure.

ok i was reading that u really only need a restrictor for bb turbos and that as long as i have a big return line it will keep the oil pressure from getting too high for my journal turbo. its a -3 feed line and -10 return line the kit does have a male to male fitting with a smaller hole but its not that small, dunno what the measurement is.. i had the fast turbo kit on my last car and i had no turbo issues
FUNCTION7 type it into search on ebay. theyn look for the size you need -3 or -4 and it will say restrictor. if none are up listed then contact them directly to get one you need a .035. gt turbos take .025

To the OP, why do you think you need this increase in oil pressure?
i suggest no shim on the oil pump senior. im reading about the GT3071 turbo that ima slap on my D16y7 and pretty much says to use the .035.. ATPturbo site says the following:
