Grinding 5th gear
I am having a problem gringing fifth gear, almost every time I shift from third to fifth, and anytime I shift from fourth to fifth quickly. I do not have a short shifter, so this is not the problem. Also, it grinds even when I am very carefully shifting.
I have also noticed that when I engage/disengage the clutch there is a creaking noise that sounds like a spring. Could this be my problem. By the way, I very recently had my master cylinder replaced. I am stumped. Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated.

there was a recall on thee manuel tranny........at least when my boyfriend took his in because he couldnt get it to shift into 3rd, HONDA had replaced it because of thee 3rd/5th gear fork or something along those lines......i can check into it further if you would like....it was well over a year ago and i have a really bad memory....but that might help out ya out
weak honda synchros. all honda trannys are like this.
as for the creaking noise. probably your slave. if the creaking sound is not coming from under the dash.
the slave may need to be lubricated or replaced.

Double clutch when you shift to 5th...
Basically, push in clutch and take it out of 4th to neutral
Let out clutch (while in neutral and rolling)
Push in clutch and go to 5th...
Yes, it takes more time.. 4th gear goes to around 110-120, you shouldn't need to speed shift to 5th at that speed..
Also, as you wear down 5th gear by grinding each time you shift, you grind of the face of the selector ring, and eventually you won't be able to put it in reverse....

Last time I checked, there was a TSB for the 5th gear sychro. I would go and check that out first before you take it anywhere to get it replaced.
Also, are you shifting from 3rd to 5th gear, skipping 4th gear? If so, that will put more wear on your already weak 5th gear synchro. Take the extra 2 seconds and goto 4th on the way to 5th.
