Default Freshly chipped p28, running like crap on basemap

Hey guys I just chipped my p28 with a kit from moates to prepare for future mods, I also got a custom EEPROM burned from a reputable ebay seller. It's a basemap with launch control, just to play with things. When I install J1 the car idles like crap, stumbles, and I have to give it gas to keep it running. It also smells hella rich. Could this just be a bad basemap? It's not in limp mode, launch control hits right at 3500 like i had it set. CEL is normal, not solid. I remove J1, and it runs fine. Thanks in advance for your input.

If it runs fine with the jumper pulled and there is no CEL with it jumped then I would say it's the base map that's not set up properly.

that's what i figured.. so much for trusting someone on ebay to burn a good base. I've just ordered a base chip from xenocron so we'll see what happens. thanks

If the chip is setup for your future mods and your running it on a stock motor it will run like crap and be rich.

It's running a stock basemap. I just chipped it now so I wouldn't have to later on, that way I can just get a new chip burned and get it tuned

Bone stock D16Z6

By the way, I noticed this morning the main relay is flickering on and off with the chip on. Here's a video to see what I mean

I dont believe a bad ROM would cause this problem

I say it's a bad chip, but remember when people are burning you chips it's almost impossible to get it perfect: base map are only to get you to your tuner. Since your car is stock it should be a hell of a lot closer then what it is, where are you located ? If you're close i'll send you one, don't rule out the chip job first: your problem may be in there.

it sounds to me like you could have failed to install the chip kit correctly and when you remove the jumper it will return the ecu to stock

That's what I'm thinking, but I'm still stumped as to why the main relay would flicker like that.. I'm in VA but I've already ordered a basemap chip from xenocron, thanks though. I've gone back through all my solder points, reheated to make sure there's no cold joints and everything looks fine... It's just odd.

What chipping kit/instructions did you use to chip your ECU? In other words what did you add or remove from your ECU?

All I removed was the solder from the required places. Added 28 pin dip and zif socket in its place, 74HC373 chip in it's place, jumper into J1, 1k resistor into R54, .1uF capacitors into C51 and C52, datalogging header into CN2

thanks dood, i'm somewhat new to the honda scene but i always research before i jump into something. well hopefully the ups guy gets here early tomorrow... if i can't get the basemap to work and resoldering doesn't fix it i think i'll just hold off until i start installing new parts then just get a whole chipped ecm..

We all had to start somewhere too. I started off pretty much the same way. I chipped a P06 ECU with a Moates chip kit and then street tuned it to run my stock F22B2. Start small then go big!

just an update, resoldered everything this morning (before the chip came) and put the old ebay chip in... same problem

about 30 mins ago the xenocron chip came, popped that in and it's running perfect... even have launch control to boot

If you're thinking about getting a cheap custom burn on ebay, think twice! I ended up spending more having to buy both, I wish I would have just gone with xenocron from the beginning!

Good to hear that you got it up and running. Xenocron Tuning, Chris, are good at what they do. Very easy to deal with as well.

Cheers
