Potential H2/H3 ITR
So my father and I have been toying with the idea of getting into ECHC stuff since I started doing AutoX/HPDE with my ITR many years ago. Recently an ex-H1 ITR shell has popped up on ebay along with now a SCCA E-Production ITR and were wondering, semi-seriously, which would be a better option. The Ex-H1 shell is pretty bare as a shell, cage, and 5 lug, but seems to be very clean and never seriously wrecked.
My real questions come with the E-Production car. We would want to run H3/H2 and would most likely need to dumb the car down a bit. It has a built motor, Motons, etc. We would probably want to run a less modded engine, and replace it with a more tame powerplant, selling the built engine. We'd also probably ditch the Motons for a simpler set up such as PIC's or the like. It would still have usable parts like a Mugen intake, HyTech header, exhaust, and comes with wheels, fire system, and is of course already running. I'd imagine the E-Prod car would also need to lose the fender flares. Just wondering what you guys think. This would be our first race car and we're both ITR nuts, so that will be our first one, sooner or later.
Just looking for a little direction. Thanks guys.

get the e-prod car if the price is right and sell everything off of it you don't want.
It would be much easier and cheaper then dealing with a shell.
Note the e-prods rear legs of the cage aren't legal for NASA.
That could be easily fix though.

Door bars on that E-prod car are a pretty crummy design and something I would change if the car was purchased.
Rear part of the door bars terminate on an extra bar that was added because they didn't want to cut into the door sill and it's just not a good design!
Other than that, seems like a nice car with some quality stuff on it!
Sounds like you have a decent plan for the car if you win it and your thinking is in line although I'd probably keep the Motons on the car!
You are right, fender flares need to go and I would plan on running H2 because the Lexan is not legal in H3 along with the fact no one runs H3!

Piper Motorsport is probably the largest (and most renowned) roll cage fabricator in the Mid-Atlantic region, and that's the main thing they specialize in. Makes me wonder if us EC guys have inferior cages...
Not only are the driver side door bars poorly executed and unsupported at the add in main hoop bar, the knee breaker dash bar should have been installed above the steering column.
