Skunk pro series turbo cams with jrsc?
Hi,
I'm looking at purchasing these cams:
http://www.skunk2.com/mm5/merchant.m...de=305-05-0156
Part # - 305-05-0156
Specs - IN. 0.409,223; EX. 0.394,227
They are turbo cams, but was wondering if anybody has tried them with a jrsc or even mild allmotor (bolt-ons).....
I know they are TURBO cams, but should still have minimal overlap, and more peak lift so they might be good for superchargers and possibly even ok with mild allmotor setups....
Thoughts?

Well for what its worth, tuners have been finding that the skunk 2 turbo cams are not performing as they are supposed to. That's why people have been running the pro 1 cams, tuner 1 & 2 cams from Skunk 2 because they are making more power. With my boosted R, I just made 565 whp on pump gas with 18.5 lbs of boost with pro 1's as opposed to my stock cams only making 540 whp at 21.5 psi.....hence more power with 3 less PSI. I know your SC, but thought you might want to hear my story and what I've been reading.
hey thanks for the input tootsie. i was considering the tuner 1's since they would fit the application - I just saw a set of the turbo cams fs at a good price recently, which is why I created this thread.
i thought i posted this in the f/i section, so sorry for the ot thread guys!
can a mod please move it to the foced induction forum?

565 whp on pump gas only at 18.5 lbs of boost. It was headed for over 600 whp on pump gas but we let out. I'll probably do a 600+ whp pull once on pump gas for good measure. I built the car well and it make power VERY easily. We kept checking the plugs, no issues at all.
Black R, Skunk 2 just revised the Pro 1's so that they no longer have to be degreed in and they refined the profile so it idles more like stock, similiar to the Tuner 1's. I'd probably hold out for one of the 2 if I were you. Skunk 2 hasn't publically released this information yet to my knowledge. Look for my thread in forced induction, Jeff Evans posted more information about it.
I heard the same thing through my contact as well. Appearantly there have been too many people complaining that you need to actually install Pro series camshafts versus drop-in-and-go. From my understanding, they are going to phase out their current stock of Pro series cams, and distribute the new profiles once the old ones are gone.
I didn't hear anything about them having better idle, that is all in the tune, plus a couple tricks. I have been running Pro series cams in my motor for the last three years (Pro2's and now Pro 3's), and my car warms up and idles like stock, with barely a hint of lumpyness. I think they are just moving the valve events on the Pro series stuff so that the centerlines match OEM Honda. This wont affect idle unless they actually change the ramp or opening/closing events.

Yep, tuners were complaining so they decided to change the centerlines for a "drop in" cam, however from what I've been told, they also revised the "ramp" as you stated for better idle. So far I've beaten the hell out of my car since I installed them and it still idles at 900 rpms like stock. I love them haha.
Jeff is a great tuner so I'm sure that had a lot to do with it, though. I'm actually surprised Skunk 2 didn't release a public statement yet about the change in cams because I installed mine like stock, and Jeff was going to "degree" them in for me when i went to tune, however when we degreed them in, it sounded like ***, so we did some research and found out I had already gotten the revised cams. Changed it back to 0,0 and idled like stock.
Your pro 3's made 228 whp? I remember back to my N/A days I made 220 whp on a stock block with those Jenvey ITB's and Toda C's I had, if you remember at all.

Totsie, there's the same story with Pro2s. A lot of those numbers that Skunk2 is giving out for degreeing in the camshafts came from Don Flores. You guys are right that there are going to be revised versions of the cams coming out that will be mostly properly installed at 0,0 -- we all know every engine is a bit different.
OP, I'm also curious as to whether you're running a JRSC or a centrifugal blower.
Something you need to consider is that SCs and Turbos ARE different animals.
Considering what Roger had to say (and him being somewhat of the authority on JRSCs on here), I wonder how a JRSC setup would react to Pro1s. I know bigger boost Turbos react VERY well to them. It seems that lesser boost applications do better with Tuner1s.
According to what Roger has said, the Roots blowers (JRSCs) like overlap even less than Turbos. Pro1s have quite a bit of overlap!
All this being said, it's really just speculation and conjecture....the only real way to know is to dyno test it and see what happens.
