Default Picking a race seat.

Its come time to pick up a real seat for the hatch. Its gota be fixed back, and i would like it to be FIA, even tho theres no FIA tracks around here.

Im not a skinny guy so ive gota have "Wide" "GT" "XL" whatever **** they call them nowdays. Im open to other options but right now is what ive come up with.

Sparco Evo 3/XL
Corbeau FX1 Wide
Cobra Imola S/2 GT

I have sat in the Cobra, 2 of my friends own them, i fit in them fine, i could loose a little more weight or get a slightly wider seat and be more comfortable tho. Ive sat in A Corbeau but it was the Forza2 its ok, but being their cheepest entry level fixed back seat its far from the most comfortable.

The Sparco with mounts and shipping ends up being right at $840
The Cobra with Mounts and shipping ends up at $800
The Corbeau with mounts and shipping is $500

At that point i dont think i could do the Cobra with the Sparco only being $40 more, unless the Cobra is truely a better seat. But thats why im asking. What kinda seats have you guys bought/sat in/raced in and what did you like/not like.

Thanks.

I have the Cobra Sebring Pro. got it from Sube.
Most people use Recaro, Momo, Sparco etc..
There are many options out there, buy what suits your budget and fits you well.
Don't get caught up in "most recognizable" name brand game.
Every brand has its good seats, and seats that just suck A**.

Ya, like i said the name regonition on the Sparco is just that, but what herd on this topic on another board is that they do live up to the hype somewhat. But thats why i wonder about the Corbeau, its cheeper but is it necessarly a worse seat compared to the Cobra or Sparco.

Theres also a Racetech but its a little out of my price range.

Every brand has their seats that are way way over priced. Cobra has them too.
Do your research...Sit in everything. See what ya like, and check your budget.

I liked the foam that Cobra used on their seats when I checked 'em out at SubeSports. Compared to the Sparco Pro2000 that I owned, it's a world of difference. The Sparco is basically a cheap cosmetic layer stretched over a shell, while the Cobra seats I tried had a good, durable fabric with memory foam-like material to cushion all around, and not just on the back and bottom pads like the Sparco.

I use a Sparco Evo 2 Plus... find it quite comfortable and supportive on the track.

Sparco's seat covers are not the most durable, but the same can be said for most cloth covers. The side bolsters eventually tear due to climbing in and out.

Selling a used pair of Cobra Imola GT seats in blue - $400 for the pair. Pick up only in NY 10960. No hardware included.

I, personally, wouldn't bother with a Fiberglass seat as they only pass FIA standards when using a 180lb weight or less. I'm not quite that skinny, so something a little more "stout" is necessary.

Good advice here. I'd hate to have rips in my seats .

Cobra seems like the way to go here unless you want to spend more money on a better quality Spacro seat. I've had a Corbeau and it's pretty much crap. It's a seat but that's about it, nothing special.

Also don't forget seat position. Most important part of a fixed-back seat is finding the most comfortable seating position for you so don't skimp on good brackets.

the corbeau FX1 wide is REALLY wide.
i'm a big guy and i fit in the normal FX1 fine. i've had FX1's for about 4 years. i think they are very comfortable and a good deal for the price. i have a pair in my civic, and am getting ready to put one in my M3 soon.

only issue i had was on the FX1 wide, one of the bottom mounts cracked partially and would bend upwards causing the seat to move some.
i'd say side mount the if possible.

I owned a set of Corbeau FX1 Pro's a few years ago. I later bought Sparco seats for the CRX. I can tell you that Corbeau's flex A LOT and the quality just isn't the same. I weigh 170 lb so I wasn't really a lot of weight to handle.

I've rode in Cobra's, Sparco's, and a RaceTech, all felt great and proportioned correctly. My only advice is don't go with Corbeau.

EDIT: Cheap Sparco's can be junk, too. The Sprint/Speed seats are disappointing. My comments above refer to the Sparco $700+ stuff (Evo's, Pro ADV, etc)

Having owned Sparco Pro2000s for the last few years, and having recently tracked in an Ultralight Roadrace, I'm kind of liking the aluminum seats more. With a proper back-brace design (rather than the "impale me viciously" design), I'd be completely comfortable with it. I found the seat to give me a better feel for what the car was doing, despite that particular one being too big for me.

So, anyone want to buy a pair of CF Pro2000s?

Be prepared for the shoulder "wings" to hit the door panel. Tight squeeze.
