Default 08 Civic Si Sedan vs 08 SE-R Spec V

Ok. So yesterday I went to Carmax cuz they are the coolest and I saw that they had both of these cars there. I couldn't wait to test drive both of them cuz of all the material I have read on both cars and on how closely built they are to one another. I drove the Spec V first, it had a little over 2000 miles on it. It had a Stillen exhaust on it. My first impression before driving it was, wow, it comes with a lot of nice features too like the Si, like SE-R badge seats, red stitching, SE-R badged brakes, red seat belts(I didn't really care for), and a 2.5L 200hp motor mated to a 6 speed tranny. Then I took it for a spin. It didn't feel horrible, but it didn't feel great. Kinda clunky and jittery. And this one didn't have the LSD. I own a 04 Spec V and from 02-06 LSD was standard. So this was a set back. Plus I felt like my Spec V drove way smoother and accelerated quicker cuz it weighs about 250lbs less but 25 less horse power. Then jumping into the Si, WOW. I haven't owned a Honda for some time now, and let me tell you, I have forgotten how nice they can be. Especially these newer ones. I liked everything about it way more. The cockpit was amazing compared to the SE-R. I love where the e-brake is placed. I didn't think vision out of the car was going to be good, but I was wrong. It is very good, and I have driven a 09 Fit as well and the vision is almost as good as that. Well, most of you guys in here already know how good your Civic Si is, I just wanted to let you know again. I am envious. Enjoy your Civic Si's while you have em, whether it's a coupe or sedan. One last thing, are the 08-09 Si coupes way better than previous 07 coupes?

by the sound of it, you really enjoyed the si alot more than the spec-v. the 08-09 have resolved the 3rd gear issue. but some of the early 08's had the 3rd gear issue. theres a tsb about it stickied at the top of this thread. and the 09 has the revised front end which in opinion im not really a fan of it.

Some of the later 08s have it as well.

Oh wow. I wasn't trying to bring up this tranny thing hehe. What I had read was that the 08-09 Si's came with different suspension?? Or same as the sedan?? That's what Wikipidia said anyways. The tranny issue does sound like a bummer though. The 08 Si sedan I drove didn't seem to have any troubles, although it only had 9000 miles or so on it. Big price difference in both cars as well. The SE-R Spec V was $13,999 with 2k miles and the Si was around $19,000 with 9k miles. It had the navigation in it too. I just couldn't believe the Si handled so much better. It was much tougher to get the wheels to screech, and that big *** foot pedal for the gas makes heel-n-toe so easy. My older brother drives an AP2, and I must say the tranny's feel similar in the way they shift. Super smooth, well unless you get that grind that everyone is talking about

they have the same style suspension but the spring rates and damping forces are different.

LOL @ people who drive 16yr old cars, and then go in forums for newer vehicles in an attempt to talk ****, but really just reveal their pathetic jealousy.

To the OP, the Si is a much better vehicle than the Nissan. You are correct in your findings.

maybe we could find something better to discuss, this ***** old, you are on a honda forum, go to car and driver and post your reviews, or go torture spec v owners elsewhere...

Not that i really care too much but i wanted to point out that a 12sec hatch isnt a DD as his "slow si" is. So all that smack and guess what its point less. Glad you have a12 hatch though but thats dumb **** to us b/c our cars are mainly DD's not drag cars. Now a better comparison would be your DD to our DD. Not hating just wanted you to know. DD doest equal Dragster.

No need to get your panties in bunch.

OP: If you're trying to get an unbiased evaluation of which of the 2 cars is more worth while, take this discussion to a site that doesn't have "Honda" or "Nissan" in the name. Either way, if you post in either, you'll get biased answers.

judging by this post, it's hard to believe that you own a newer si; otherwise, you wouldn't have written what you did. you'd know enough to not bother comparing a 14 year old car and something that's <=3 years old.

Why do new Civic Owners have to hate on the Dc2? Get a car over 20K dollars and then talk ****.

the si costs around $22k new. nobody's hating on anything here (other than the se-r); we're just saying that there's no point of comparing how fast you can make an old cheap car with a newer car that still has a warranty. people buy the 2 cars for completely different reasons; nobody debates between buying a 95 gsr or a 09 si.

well an 07 FA5 is my dd so yea i drive an si the hatch is a bitch for a dd, as stated above. my point is why hate on an old car , some older cars are nicer and much faster than the ever so slow si, not saying they arnt a fun commuter car , but no drag car , for whats avail for them. the only reason to hate on an old car is if its being neglected and beat up and portraying that of a well done ride. there are some very hot old teggs and hondas out on the roads still and they deserve the same respect you want of your car.

my point is, people don't buy a brand new or close to brand new car in order to build a drag car. 99% of 06+ si's are close to stock and used as dd's. nobody ever said that there aren't nice older cars, you're arguing over nothing here.

take notice to post #10..im not arguing just not gonna hate on anyones 14 yr or older car just cause they are in an 06 an up section, kinda go's with the type specific meets generally suck , cause your closing out on the cars that started it all.

You can sense the superiority felt by New SI owners towards dc2 owners..... hmm... I love my Teg, and I daily drive it. Gives me everything the SI has, minus the price tag!

It's good to see all this fiesty-ness. It just means that you all really like your own cars. I posted this in here because all I wanted to do was applaud Honda's fit and finish of the Civic Si, and to just let all you Honda Civic Si(newer ones) owners that you should be proud of your cars. I too was once a Honda guy, owned a few in my day(88 Civic LX, 93 Civic DX coupe, 95 Accord EX, 02 EP3, 98 EK, and a 95 DC2 w/ Type R motor), and was saying how I forgot how much of a joy driving these cars with a simple H on them is and was. This was really just a hollar in good graces and for you guys to keep your cars clean. Let's end this topic in a good way
