Regardless of how much the schools teach you, there is no substitution for experience. Custom stuff is cool, but you need to learn how to do the basics properly first. Around here, there is 7th Row center in Woburn, MA and RITOP in Watertown. There is nothing wrong with starting at CC... you may not be able to do any custom work, but once again, you gotta learn the basics first.

Schools are only good for getting certificates but not real world experience. I've worked with people that have many certs and claim they can do anything but their work quality and efficiency is just horrible. Not all are bad, just most that I've worked with that came from schools. But all the mind blowing installers I've worked with have gone to electronics school. I started by working on my own car then working on my friends cars. Word will travel quickly if you do good work.

I have gotta agree with Da Skillet on this one....there is no greater teacher than experience. If you are serious...go to meisearch.com...and do a search for schools and certification programs. Also look into MECP ( Mobile Electronics Certification Program )...this is a Nationally Recognized program...you can order the Installer study guide for about $35.00. That book covers basic electronics, audio, cellular, security, mobile video..its a good reference book to own. You can even have the test proctored at your local library. Also don't hesitate looking into a Circuit City or Best Buy (or if your near Jersey a Tweeter Etc)...this is where you get to work on a variety of cars and learn those skills. I wish you luck.
