vtec or not

i have a d16y8 in my eg and i picked up a wrecked 97 coupe with a y7 and im planning on going turbo so will there be much of a difference going turboed without vtec rather then vtec? if so how much?

i forgot to add that there is a 180 000 on the y8 and 80 000 on the y7
