Anyone else have this battle? What's the best and easiest solution to avoid contact between the piping and foglight brackets? Maybe I've mounted my intercooler in a bad spot, its bolted to the bottom of my front bumper support due to me not wanting to take the support off and have my bumper dancing around everywhere. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated seeing as I'd love to have every part of my Si back together
thanks!
thanks!
back door intercooler is pretty much the only way i have seen.
or try and find a different kit where the pipes arent in the way,
i have only seen 1 turbo em1, he is my buddy and im not quite sure how he did it,
have you tired mounting the fogs?? maybe see where it hits and mod the braket a bit??

Lol not familiar with the term back door intercooler... I'm a boost noob, I've been doin all motor builds. Just wanted to switch it up a bit. I may just end up mod'ing the piping and just get some 180 bends that are tighter bends and won't go as far forward as the ones supplied with the kit, just a cheap ebay kit till I can afford to upgrade each piece as I break it accordingly lol. Just wanted to see if anyone had suggestions seein as this has become a minor PITA.
here is one http://www.go-autoworks-store.com/gobain.html
im sure they come in smaller sizes.
my friend has the full race ram horn kit. and his oem fogs fit.

definitely not going to be able to pick up something like that anytime soon, ive got custody of my 2 year old son, and im getting ready to buy a house lol, i just bought a cheapo ebay turbo kit just for starters, im upgrading the turbo, and i will replace parts as they break(and you know they will) lol. i think i may just need to set a couple hours aside and just screw with the location of the intercooler, or modify the piping, or even try running the piping higher to maybe gain clearance of the foglights from above. I'm sure if i take a couple hours and try all of this and it doesnt work, ill post again, language may not be G rated, so as a precaution keep the kids away from the computer lol. thanks man
I would also say weld the holes on the FMIC and cut out new ones up top so you can have some clearance. I also have 99-00 fogs and I love how they look on the car. I dont want them to have to be removed.'
But it HAS been done. Ive seen it, I just forget wehre.

yo do you mean avoid contact just so theyre not touching? or are they shorting out?
i have a 97 coupe with foglights, and lately theyve been shorting out on me, i think its cause my piping is hitting them right now, but i still dont know why theyd short.. the ground must be bad or something. i duct taped them and that worked for like 3 months now im back to them shorting out again

negative on the shorting out, i dont have the intercooler piping mounted due to it hitting the foglights, im gunna do some cutting to the bumper support and run the piping over top of the foglights and see if that works, i dont want it anywhere near the fog lights just to prevent it from ever shorting out due to contact.
Are the holes on the IC centered or are they more towords bottom of intercooler ? cause if there not centered you can just flip the IC upside down. . .
Or you can do some fab. to the piping to get a little bend around the Foglight bracket. . .

ill probably flip the intercooler upside down as i stated before(running piping over above foglights) either way, this thing is a pain in the tail...and the inlet and outlet on the end tanks are off centered towards the bottom, or top depending on how you look at it. I just want to make sure my method of mounting will not conflict with future intercooler upgrade. Well back to it, thanks for the input!
