You can always bring it to Sears and they'll give you a new one. All craftsmen tools have a lifetime warranty.

Snap-On split-beam. I got one off eBay for $75, it's used but it's better than paying +$300 for a new one.

hate to tell ya guys but craftsman doesnt have the guarantee on their precision tools. been there done that. snap-on does make good tq wrenches. im not a huge fan of snap-on becuase they are WAY, WAY, WAY overpriced. they do however have really good boxes and such.

Yeah i saw a used snap-on on ebay for 90$ claiming to only be used 5 times and works perfect but i dunno the reliability on buying used tools off ebay thing kinda makes extra cautious... maybe i can find a legit seller with a used one in great shape for cheap tho, that'd be sweeeeet..

And yes, Craftsman does not carry a warranty their torque wrenches which I find convenient; the one tool that you would want a warranty on does not come with one.
The sweet thing about the split-beam is that you don't have to zero out the wrench after every use. With a dial, click, and possibly digital (not 100% sure about digital) you have to set the wrench to the lowest torque setting after every use to prevent strain on the parts.
Check out Precision Instruments as well, they make some good wrenches.
go get a new one at sears or go with the olskool needle style at advance thats what i use and it never fails and its free to rent it cause you get your deposit back in the end
god i have one that is older than dirt...it still works fine. it has the click style and idk what brand it is. idk how accurate it is but i have never had any problems with it whatsoever.
Yeah i think my craftsman is going as well. Ditto on the Snap-on click type. The digital type with vibrate feature is nice if you're trying to set very precise torques, but for the tolerances you need to hit for basic wrenching, the click type is great.

i understand that i can get a free replacement from sears, but what im asking is if in the past 6 years have any torque wrenches surpassed the craftsman brand, and not that expensive...
Snap-On from eBay for about $75 = not that expensive. A $350 torque wrench for >$80 is a sweet deal. Spend $20 on the Pittsburg, another $60 on a Husky, possibly another $80 on a Craftsman is a waste of money because at the end of the day buying a used Snap-On is still far better than buying a brand new anything else.
Like I said earlier, Precision also makes great torque wrenches. $175 for a brand new 3/8 drive 20-100 ft/lbs.
$175 is pretty cheap considering how important it is to properly torque certain engine components.
