Icon3 5th Gen Alternator in 4th Gen... any benifit?

I need a replacement alternator, and I've got a question. Are there any benefits of putting an OBD2 alternator in an OBD1 Prelude? Weight/ quality/ anything? I don't really want to hack my harness again, unless it's absolutely necessary. I've done some searching and see that you have to split, but there are others that say you don't. I assumed you did. Need some answers. Thanks!

Only thing I can find.
