ok i have been having this problem off and on for a while now. i have replaced the fuel pump, main relay, rear wiring and ignition. the fuel pump wont kick on and my gas gage drops below empty! im very confused!


can someone help me out with this one

 

Is fuse 31, 18, or 24 blown?

Is the CEL ON?

 

no cel and all fuses are good

 

Do you also lack bright spark at the plugs? Is the ground wire on the thermostat housing tight and clean?

The gas gauge gets its signal from the sending unit near the fuel pump in the gas tank. I think you should double check the wiring at the fuel pump. Might be a loose ground wire.

 

i havnt checked the brightness of the spark.....not really sure if there really is a way. and i have cleaned all grounds! i try to figure it out before asking for help but i now have nothing..lol

 

Here's how to check for bright spark.

Check carefully the wiring for the fuel pump and sending unit (see my post above).

run a wire from the battery to the fuel pump, does the car start?

 

ok im getting power to the fuel pump but nothin........but whats with the gas gage droping below empty????? it seem like there is a shot someware.

 

If the pump is getting power but not running, then the pump is bad. Alternatively, the connector terminals are not making contact. Check for damage.

 

ok i am just going to get a new fuel pump. i pulled the pump out smacked it with a screwdriver then plugged it back in and it turned on.....

 

ok so i replace the fuel pump with a new walbro.......and still nothing!!! what the hell!! i have power to the fuel pump!!!!! i think its time to just push it off a cliff...........

 

take off every ground wire you can think of and clean it up. seriously, thats what my "cranking" problem was, a fouled ground from me shorting a connection.

 

so i replaced the fuel tank "cap" where the fuel pump is attached to and it worked so i think it may be the connector to the fuel pump........not sure we will see what happens
